MOORPARK, CA -- 13. February. 2002 -- Gibbs and Associates, developer of GibbsCAM, computer--aided manufacturing (CAM) software for programming computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools, announced today that they will be demonstrating push--button interoperability between GibbsCAM® 2002 and SolidWorks 2001Plus in the SolidWorks pavilion at NDES 2002 held March 18--21 in Chicago, Illinois at McCormick Place. This demonstration will show the new level of interoperability between the two applications realized using the SolidWorks-to-GibbsCAM Transfer Add- -in. The add--in, which facilitates model transfer to GibbsCAM with a single menu selection from within SolidWorks, is ideally suited in situations where CNC programmers also have access to SolidWorks or where designers are also accessing GibbsCAM to create CNC programs.

The SolidWorks-to-GibbsCAM Transfer Add--In, which complements GibbsCAM's already existing ability to directly read native format SolidWorks files, is now included as a standard feature of the GibbsCAM 2002 release allowing SolidWorks/GibbsCAM users easy access to this powerful capability. Incorporating the Add--in as part of the GibbsCAM 2002 release further demonstrates the companies' commitment to work together to provide industry leading, best--in--class CAD/CAM solutions. "Working directly with SolidWorks, we were able to develop a higher level of integration between our products," says Bill Gibbs, founder/president of Gibbs and Associates. "As a result, the SolidWorks/GibbsCAM combination continues to deliver incredible value and performance to customers."

"The SolidWorks/GibbsCAM combination is very popular with SolidWorks users," states Bob McGill, SolidWorks Solution Partner Program manager. "The new SolidWorks-to-GibbsCAM Add--In allows users to experience a seamless exchange between the two applications, making using them together even easier than before."

SolidWorks/GibbsCAM customers continue to experience significant reductions, often as much as 75 to 85 percent, in their overall programming time through the SolidWorks/GibbsCAM CAD/CAM solution. Because SolidWorks and GibbsCAM are both based on the Parasolid modeling kernel not only is data translation eliminated, but also model evaluation is exactly the same preventing geometric differences from being introduced. This ensures that the part geometry will be machined directly as designed resulting in the highest degree of fidelity in the finished product. GibbsCAM's associativity mechanism also allows toolpath to be updated to reflect changes in the geometry without having to redefine parameters or re--associate geometry through "Redo All Ops". Changes to process parameters, such as tooling changes, speed and feed rates, can also be easily accommodated at any time. Updates to the Add--In will also be available at Gibbs' Online support section on their web site, www.GibbsCAM.com.
