Fw: Sunspot Alert   Message List

Hi,

Has anyone caught these new sunspots (see below) with a suitable filtered telescope as not to blind themselves?

The are fascinating in my Coronado Personal Solar Telescope. It has a small tuning ring that slightly varies the observable wavelength. Every small turn delivers another wealth of active detail.

I've had the telescope for three years and this is the first time I've observed a sun spot group with it. I'm looking forward to a more active sun in the next few years.

Simon

Space Weather News for July 4, 2009
http://spaceweather.com

The sun is putting on its own 4th of July fireworks show. A new sunspot is rapidly emerging in the sun's southern hemisphere and it is crackling with B-class solar flares.  The magnetic polarity of sunspot 1024 identifies it as a member of new Solar Cycle 24.  It appears to be the best offering yet of the young solar cycle.  Check http://spaceweather.com for images and updates.

yep :-) I had my 'filtered' scope on it yesterday afternoon. It's fascinating to observe sun spots - and not as cold. I was charging the battery on my laptop...
