All I saw was a lot of nothing. Good clear sky, lots of stars, no meteors.

Disappointing.

Wherever you are, no Leonids will be visible before the shower's radiant point (in Leo) rises around local midnight. And peaks and bursts aside, the number of visible meteors increases steadily from radiant-rise until Leo is highest, just as the sky is starting to get light.

I’m not sure about the dynamics. If the radiant is just below the horizon would you still be able to see them? From here the radiant was rising shortly after 10. So maybe the lack of Leonids suggests not.

Massive waste of time. Sky clear here 7pm until 10pm. I saw maybe two or three per hour. Nothing like the expected number.

Who is that keeps bigging up these events? Is it someone who hates astronomers?

Hi,

Did anyone have any luck? It was actually clear for a little while during the predicted peak. However the cloud & rain soon moved in at ten.

I never saw anything though. I guess the radiant needed to be up?

Any chance of postcode and exactly where (ie what building and which room.)this is taking place, as I've never been to Northumbria University before, and I don't want to get lost.

Cheers & regards

jay.

Hi,

We have an enthusiastic observer (beginner) that lives in Heaton that would like to come to our observing sessions at Vallum Farm.

His name is William Spanswick. He cannot attend all (any?) of our meetings because he works till 6:30. He also does not have any transport.

If anyone who lives over that way would like to volunteer to pick him up on the way to one of our observing sessions I'm sure he would be happy. I have his contact details.

Thanks

Simon

Hi,

Is anyone on this list going to Luna's first meeting?

I have to work tomorrow night and so I'll miss it. Just hoping that someone could tell me what happened.

Thanks
Pete

Oh - false alert!

But worth signing up to it as we move out of solar minimum

We are very sorry for today's false alert which was due to man-made
disturbance at our Lancaster field site.

Regards,
the AuroraWatch team.

For those who expressed an interest, Luna's first meeting is on November 3rd at the Centre for Life in Newcastle at 7 pm.

The December 1st meeting looks particualrly good and features BBC Look North's Weatherman Paul Mooney talking about the weather and the planets.

Peter
