Ron, Turn down the gain all the way. Then turn up brightness and slow down your exposure to compensate. That made the biggest difference in noise for me. BJ.....

It has a CMOS detector instead of a CCD, so is not as sensitive. It would be better to go with the Phillips SPC900NC (even if it is USB 1.1 instead of 2.0)....
