No...you're right...it will play VBR and bit rates up to 320 kbps...I know
the problem though...and the only work-around for me has been to re-encode
it with LAME...

Not a big fan of this as an Mp3 player, If thats your primary use,
seriously look into Zen Xtra, While a few have died on people. I still
use my early 20GB from 2001 and the writings worn off it's banged and
beat up... and still works!
I wanted a large hard drive and a bit smaller, so I picked up a 30GB
Zen Xtra and swapped out the drive for a 120GB, now I have 1000's of
hours of books and old time radio shows for an extended trip.
I think in the past we established that the out of sync is in the
recording, not to say that this mighr not be due to a slow hard drive,
but I've played 2 hour long movies (recorded off air then ripped down
in "pocket Divx" for the player and it stays in sync.
I might well try to put in a larger (120 or 160gb) drive and see how
it works out, have a trip coming out and might spend my somewhat
slower days this fall ripping down movies to load on a big drive.

Encoding needs (1) Constant bit rate (CBR, NOT VBR), and (2) bitrate
of no more than 128(?) Kbps.
There are lots of freeware MP3 conversion programs; get one (or
several) and start converting.

The foil tape provides grounding internally, to prevent static
discharge between parts of the system. Why would you want this? Just
think of static as small lightning bolts - do you really want those
inside your MPM?

Haven't actually tried this (I just found this group today), but I am
wondering if the issue with loss of A/V sync might be caused by a slow
HDD in the MPM. I'll continue reading the messages and see what turns up.

What format are they in now? MOV? FLV? MP4? And do they have the DRM

I'm new to this group, had my 202 since Geeks.com was selling them,
and I haven't found any new codecs yet. However, from what I
understand, you need to be sure the audio is encoded at no higher than
128kbps.
Ripping DVD to "something useful" is a multi-step process for me:
NOTE: You still need VirtualDub for this method, but it's pretty
automated instead of requiring you to fiddle with all the settings
manually.
Convert to unencrypted using DVDfabDecrypter (you can usually skip
this step, but if you get CRC errors in the second step, start back here).
Open the files from above (or open the disk if you want to try to go
directly from the disk) in DVD Shrink. Save the output as an ISO file.
This will fit on a burnable DVD so you can keep a backup.
Load the ISO into a "virtual DVD drive).
Load AutoGordianKnot and use it to pick out the video "tracks" you
want to convert to DivX from the virtual DVD. You can set it up to
convert several sequentially, so for example if you have a DVD with
multiple episodes of aTV series, all of the ones on a single disk
could be converted overnight while you sleep.
I'd suggest doing one short conversion with VirtualDub manually first,
then another short one this way. The results in both cases will be
*much* better than using the video in from a DVD player, and you can
see how much easier it would be to do them in batches.

Can you find the hidden words? Take a break and play Seekadoo!
http://club.live.com/seekadoo.aspx?icid=seek_hotmailtextlink1
On the topic of the player: does anyone know what hte exact a/v jack
plug is that the player is using. Standard plugs seem to work OK for
the audio but sometimes give problems with the video part. Taking out
the plus a few millimeters give video - sometimes kill an audio
channel... What plug to use for this player ???

I would also be interested in this firmware update. I think I just
bought the Pavio equivalent real cheap.
Well I had copied/formated a couple movies for the PMP using
PocketDivX but didn't realise you can copy movies in the dvd format.
I know I'm not discribing this well but I've found that you can use
pocketDivx to shrink/reformat movies from the file structure of DVD's
(at least the older structure) just go to the Video_TS folder and
either copy from the first Video_TS file or the VTS_01_1. Typically
the VTS_01_1 will be the movie w/o the intro stuff.
...and yes you get the audio as well (and they sync!!!)
Hope this isn't old information for you all, I've backed up my
personal movies and used those to copy from, but suspect it'll work
from originals but perhaps the encoding will stop it.
Hi all, I am new to here and happy to find that site. I had bought my mpm
202 more than 18 months in Hong Kong. The TV function was working fine
in Hong Kong. I moved to Toronto recently. When I use it to watch TV, I
find that I can only get the picture but without voice even I had tried
different setting from the maintenance menu. (eg. PAL-I, PAL-AU, NTSC-
JP, NTSC-US, PAL-B and PAL-CHINA)
Is there any method to fix this problem? Thanks a lot.

anyone know how to delete a channel once scanned in by the auto-scan
mode. the auto scan added "static" channels, and I can't figure out
how to remove them from the channel memory.
thanks to all who input on this forum, it has been a great help.

OK, so I have an old firmware (1.1) and the bin file for 2.0. I copied
it to a SD card and then what? What do I do do get this new firmware
installed??
tnx for helping.
ps: found the device under four names now (pavio, Yakuma, NJH and PVP-R)
3. New Codecs
Load the upgrade to DIVX from the site, we have a license through the
player.
I am interested in how you accomplished this. I would also like to
upgrade my Divx version.
Thanks in advance.
im new to this group, and i think it is really cool there is some
help for people like me online.(i have a mpm-201, 6mths old btw)
anyway just a couple of questions
1. i usually record dirctly from a dvd player but i find thid annoying
because you have to be there to stop the recording at the end( i think)
so basically i wanted to rip films to an iso or ifo onto my computer
and then covert this file to one that can be played straight away on
the mpm. Is there a program to do this or another way. It would be
good if the program was free!
2.when i check my firmware thing its says 'ver:B. 11 NhJ UCON:B.03'
is this the lastest one or can i download better firmware?
thanks a lot people
Okay I loaded all my music on it, 55 gig left. There is no way I am
ever going to fill this thing, too many features. I took me three
months to take it out of the box, and now that I figured it out, on to
ebay. I am selling it with a few batteries, the others I will list in
other auctions. Selling for $225, in box. Good Luck.

Well I asked the group some questions, no one responded, so either
this is new, or just not too friendly of a group. Hope these help.
1. Recording with the screen off.
Plug any video cable into the video out, save the life of your lcd.
2. Much brighter LCD.
I use a video editor and adjust the brightness when I convert the
format, I am able to double the brightness of the display.
3. New Codecs
Load the upgrade to DIVX from the site, we have a license through the
player.
4. Cheap batteries
Camera batteries model FU NP100 by Panasonic 2000aMh, found in a
number of stores in NYC on clearance 5 bucks each (bought 8) vido
lasts almost 4 hours. The cameras were discontinued about a year
ago, find the batteries now before they are gone.
5. Wireless MP3
Purchased off woot.com logitech bluetooth transmitter and receiver
35 bucks, works great. With the 202 remote, I stream all over the
house.
6. Dust under the screen?
Shoot the compressed air through the battery compartment. (take the
battery out first) cleans the screen great.
7. Record multiple shows.
Sorry buy a Tivo, My Tivo changes the channels, and since our players
automatically cut at 60 minutes, you can fill with video by show.
8. Replacement power supply.
Power supply is the same for the PSP, you can get a plug that fits
from Radio Shack.
9. Replace the remote.
Remote is the same for the GPX portable DVD player, a few less
option, but controls most of it, use the eject button to get our home
screen.
Happy Turkey Day All.
