You may think that you have to be some professional photogrpaher or a
photographer with 20 years of experience in order to make money from this great
trade, but even an amateur photographer can make money with his digital camera.
I have a friend who recently went to a craft show and sold some of her pictures
and made a cool $500 in only 3 hours. And she only has a point and shoot
digital camera and does not by any means consider herself to be a
professional. So how did she do this? Well it's a great thing to be
able to turn your passion into a profession, but even selling your pictures on
the weekends can being in enough money to pay that mortgage, pay your car bill,
or even enough to live on if you do this right.
First you need to take the kinds of pictures that people really want. You
can do some surveys or even get on a microstock photo website to see which
pictures are selling the most. After all, you want to spend your time
taking the kinds of pictures that people will want to buy over and over
again. And that is what is so great about selling your prints at a craft
or art show. You can sell these pictures as many times as you want and you
only had to take the picture once.
Once you get your display set up, you will want to carry the most common print
sizes as well. I have found that 8x10's and 16x20's sell the most,
but you will want to experiment your first time and see which landscape shots or
macro shots sell more. Once you know what image is selling like crazy you
can make sure that the next time you do an art show exhibit you have plenty of
that image to sell to you waiting public.
