Excellent question!
Both are possible. By default I have my system set up that one copy of iTunes
plays the
same music to all systems through the DXS digital audio distribution system.
However, in
both my living room and my family room I have separate Windows PCs that can play
music from the shared Mac copy of iTunes independently of what the Mac's iTunes
is
playing and of each other that are connected to analog inputs on the two
different
receivers.
