Hi team:

Moving ahead I don't see any reason to have Windows due to the usual stability & security factors.  The only legacy app that I have to have is, of course, Filemaker.

I'm aware that FM once had a server version that ran on Linux, but it was a short run for that product and I haven't heard anything since.

Would anyone know if there will eventually be a version that that will run natively on Linux?  I have the usual workarounds, a dual boot machine and a Mac with Parallels, but it would be so much simpler to buy and run it in Linux.

Thanks - Dave

Anyone have any ideas why a filemaker 10 runtime solution would make a windows machine freeze and have to be restarted?

Integrated WIndows Authentication being off seems to have solved it.  I swear I tried that before, but today it worked.

Anne,

That didn't solve my problem either: I have that enabled. My fm site is still not working. I got this working on Macs before; Windows, however, has it's own mindset.

OK, on another list, someone complained that:
"When I try to use the PHP Site Assistant, it seems to be preventing me from doing much. I used a [Full Access] account to connect to the database, but the Site Profile menu is grayed out and un- selectable, and the Theme area is also grayed out."  He wrote back later to say the issue was that he hadn't "selected a layout group."

... this doesn't sound like an authentication issue, and yours does, but I'm just throwing things at the wall ...

I have been doing some investigating.  If I log on the the computer under a different username, I do not seem to have the same problem.  My next step is to recreate the user.  I will let everyone know if that works.

I appreciate all the ideas.

Stay Tuned.

I'm inclined to think it's a missing font or three. It could be a missing screen or printer font file or a font conflict.

Are the other Macs in the group also running Leopard?

Hi Peter,
in the organization I am working as FM developer we had that problem with
printing pages taking a long time between pages, or even with printing one page.
But, we had that issue with FM 9, so the reason and the solution might not be
the same for you, since you are using FM 10 and OS 10.5 (ours were at that time,
FM 9 and OS 10.4).
Reason was the font used in the db: Helvetica, which is usually a default font
was causing the slow down, which was even reported on the web among the FM users
and acknowledged by FileMaker Inc.
Solution in our case was: change the print layout to have no Helvetica at all.
Use, Arial or Tahoma. They never failed on us.
It won't cost you much (except for some time), but it might fix the issue you
have.
In our case too, not all computers were affected, just some, like in yours.

Friends,

I am looking for thoughts on a printing problem I am having.

I am serving out a database from FM Server Adv. 10.  Every user except one can print without issue.  For one user running Mac OSX 10.5 and FMP 10 on a machine that was new last spring, the printing process is very slow.  One page will print and then there will be a 5 to 15 second pause before the next page prints.

We are not having this problem in other applications and or on other computers accessing the same database.  One printer is USB and another is Networked.  The problem is the same on both.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Peter
