How have you been? Glad to see you are still ......ing.
I for one still don't and never liked the word podcast but what do I know about branding and marketing. What tipped on the web in July 2004 needed a name and the community around pushing the already full pot latched onto it. The word "Podcast" is in itself limiting . But that conversation has taken place online a thousand times and why even waste the free bits and the brain cells.
The past or ending cycle (however you want to see it), in the future will probably be refered to the "Podcasting cycle" or "Podcasting 1.0" only if the market continues to hold onto the branding for a couple more cycles. Whatever it was called it was significant and will never be forgotten.
As smart device OSs such as the BlackBerry start to embrace media in the core of their OSs and connectivety to the Interent by these devices becomes inexpensive and available to the average Joe (notice I resisted writing Average Ordinary Guy) the market will shift significantly to a different place.
...and new players will build on that cycle's progress and the evolution will continue to the next cycle. You just never know how long these cycles will take.

Basically, online on-demand content is what is still alive. I know we've been getting away from the word "podcast" because I think it's a little limiting.
Essentially every site now has downloadable audio, video etc.... sometimes with an RSS feed sometimes not.
I do think you'll find someone who will buy odeo and transform it into a massive platform for the same content just less "podcasty" and more about a variety of mediums (video, games, audio, etc..)
just my thought

Looking through my glasses I see these kind of events as cycles and parts of a bigger evolution. So I am hoping that there is more half full that half empty to this cycle as I am not surprise at all to see some of these 1.0 trees beginning to fall. Stay tuned because more changes/bigger trees of Podcasting 1.0 are still to fall.
To simplify, new media on the web was just to big for what these Podcasting 1.0 companies were selling and trying to be.
I know it's Friday, but I'm interested in knowing and how you see the changes happening in Podcasting right now?

overview of PodCasting and an introduction to the technical aspects of
PodCasting. Please feel free to send me your business cards, stickers,
swag... or show up and bring your stuff and undying love and affection
and support for me. If you can't make it, I'll make sure it gets there

Chris,
I want in. I'm available for either of those days. I'd prefer March,
but if it's taken I'll do April.
I would want the banner, cds and handouts. I'd also want cards,
stickers, swag from anybody who wants me to hand stuff out.

Hi Everyone,
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a great holiday season. Now that
we're all done with our holiday induced comas, it's time to get the
NJPA back in action! I've received several emails over the last few
weeks requesting speakers for certain groups. I know many of us are
very busy, but here's our opportunity to get out there. Instead of
just me doing a presentation, I'm passing this on to you folks. Below
you'll find an opportunity to speak at the Princeton Public Library in
March or April.
Please let me know if you're interested in this opportunity. This will
be first come, first served. Send an email to njpodcasters@...
asap.
As always, if you'd like to use the NJPA banner or hand out some
Podcasting Starter Kit CDs or the pamphlets Lynette Young designed for
the TCF last year, please let me know.
Here's the information:
"Hello:
My name is Janie Hermann and I am the Technology Training Librarian at
the Princeton Public Library. One of my duties is to coordinate
technology instruction for our patrons. I am also the founder and
coordinator of a popular series known as the "Tuesday Technology
Talks" (see: http://tuesdaytechtalks.blogspot.com/)
I noticed that Chris Cavallari gave a talk last year at the TCF on
Vidcasting and Podcasting. This is a topic that I would be very
interested in having Chris or another person from your group present
at our library this spring. I am currently seeking a speaker for March
6th or April 3rd 2007. The program begins at 7 pm and ends by 8:30 pm
– you would be expected to speak for approximately 60 minutes and then
answer questions from the audience.
Would you be interested? Some of our past speakers have included Doug
Dixon from Sarnoff as well as several other well-known names in
computing circles such as John Levine, Ira Fuchs, and Brian Kernighan.
We generally draw an audience of 30-50 people. Publicity for your talk
would include a blurb in our program guide and on the library's web
site as well as press releases being sent to all the local papers.
I look forward to your reply.
Regards,
Janie"
Does anyone plan on attending a December meeting? Or should we just
plan on meeting in January? I know it's tough to go to an NJPA meeting
around the holidays, so maybe it's a good idea just to wait until
January when we're all refreshed.
Vote in the poll:
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/njpodcasters/surveys?id=2111982
Polling closes on Saturday, 12/26.
Thanks,
Chris Cavallari
Enter your vote today! A new poll has been created for the
njpodcasters group:
Should we go ahead with a December meeting or wait until January for the next
NJPA meeting?
o Have the December Meeting on 12/20
o Have the meeting on some other date, maybe a weekend.
o Wait until January for a fresh start.
To vote, please visit the following web page:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/njpodcasters/surveys?id=2111982
Note: Please do not reply to this message. Poll votes are
not collected via email. To vote, you must go to the Yahoo! Groups
web site listed above.
Thanks!
Based on the population we spoke to last year, a good start-up presentation might not be a miss... I don't know that we'd do any kind of presentations on Music in PodCasting, or Business Opportunities... as a solo presentation, but it's probably a good place to have more of an open panel.
Hi folks,
The NJPA has been invited back to the Trenton Computer Festival for 2007!
I'm sending out a call for anyone who'd like to give a good
presentation at the fest to contact me and we can discuss the
possibility.
We also have the opportunity to have a booth at the festival, so if
you're interested in helping out with that, please also let me know.
So, send an email to njpodcasters [at] gmail.com telling me your answers.
Thanks,
Chris Cavallari
Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the whole point was to get together and meet face to face?!?!? Since all most of us do is sit in front of a computer screen anyway?

Well I'm sorry I was sick but I didn't want to give everyone strep throat. Or whatever I had. Which I probubally already gave to you Chris, so I coulda' come?!?!? oh well. I will try to be at the meetings where-ever they are. Everybody (or so I've heard) complains that the meetings should be somewhere else but if nobody shows up then it doesn't matter where it's held. But whatever I'm only a listener. for now. . .

We're gonna put a couch in the basement. It's unfinished (the basement, not the couch)... but hey, it's a space with WiFi. And, hey, with the number of people at some of the meetings lately, we could just hang out in my kitchen.

I would love to attend a meeting and meet some of you.
However, weeknight meetings off Rte 1 in Princeton are a bit of a
challenge since I live in North Jersey and don't drive. If you want to
meet in Princeton, perhaps someplace near Palmer Square accessible to
the bus might be better?
