This group is for researchers interested in conducting user studies in non-traditional environments. Non-traditional environments are loosely defined as environments that often change rapidly without forewarning, are difficult or impossible to control, and have other environmental and operational constraints. Current evaluation techniques for mobile applications are not sufficient because they do not account for the limited space, testing equipment, privacy concerns, safety, and stress associated with non-traditional environments. During the proposed workshop, we will exchange case study results and methodologies for designing usability studies in non-traditional environments. The purpose of the proposed workshop is to discuss how we can create a framework for conducting usability studies, deploying applications, and monitoring applications in non-traditional environments.
