Re: DVD Player

First, I hate to hear that you hate to write again. Members helping
members is not only the purpose of this forum but a fundamental tenet
of NOPCC. So feel free to write anytime you encounter difficulties no
matter how seemingly trivial. We all can learn from these discussions.

Second, to address your problem. I'm not very strong in this area but
I did do a little research. From the InterActual site
<http://player.interactual.com/default.asp?code=AP>

"Microsoft Windows 98se / Me / XP:InterActual software is integrated
with the most popular DVD player/decoder available-- InterVideo WinDVD
(released December 2003). This is the best way to experience
InterActual Features, since you get all the benefits of WinDVD and
InterActual compatibility in one solution.

If you use a DVD decoder that does not have InterActual integration,
you can still enjoy InterActual Features by installing the InterActual
Player software included on the DVD. Using this solution, your DVD
Video and all InterActual Features will play in the InterActual Player
application."

From that it looks like InterActual needs InterVideo WinDVD to work
properly. You may have to check out support at
<http://www.intervideo.com/jsp/Support.jsp>.

Your Sonic product may not have a DVD Decoder and WMP-11, Realtime and
Quicktime almost certainly do not. So you need to find out whether
WinDVD or Sonic is going to provide the decoder and repair or update
the driver.

The closest Optical Disc Drive I could find is the Samsung TS-552x.
Where the "x" represents the many versions of the now discontinued
drive. I'm guessing tech support wanted you to download the drivers
for your ODD and then update the driver through Device Manager. If
you need to update your driver you can find out which model you have
by looking through the Device Manager and expanding the DVD/CR-ROM
Drives. Go to the Samsung site at
<http://www.samsung.com/support/productsupport/download/index.aspx>
and drill down through the step by step method. Find your model and
the appropriate firmware for your machine and save it making note of
the filename and path (usually best to download it to the desktop and
blow it away once you're done.)

Not to wantonly plug a vendor but if you are a subscriber to Smart
Computing you are entitled to tech support from them. IMHO the OEM
support only deals with hardware and software that came out of the
box. Anything you add or modify limits their ability (willingness) to
help. All too often they suggest restoring the computer to it's
initial condition.

I hope I didn't confuse the issue anymore or point you down the wrong
path. If anyone else can make some better suggestions, speak up. i
wish you the best of luck and when you do find a solution let us know
so we can reference it if necessary.
