Chris Patel, Paul Sterngold, and I are planning on heading over to Afton Canyon in the Mojave on the weekend of the next new moon - exact days tbd. ...
Hi All, Over the last six months or so I've been tracking the progress of the Skyshed POD. The POD is small circular area and a flip-up dome built from the...
Interesting. There are definite advantages to a permanent setup, even if it is "temporary". For several years now I've been using the following home made setup...
I wanted to make one like yours, Pete, but my wife basically said "over my dead body". So whatever I implement will need to look good, or else be far from the ...
i would really like to set up more of a shelter myself but there's really not a good place in my yard except by the pool and that would not be very good from a...
Hi Pete, Nice observatory! I'd agree about the size but I one of the reasons for wanting something more semi-permanent is so I can do a little more image...
Hi Richard, Yep, size does count! I think you're also correct in that I don't think anybody ever regrets getting a larger observatory. Still it's about the...
how "in focus" do you want? here are a few: www.narrowbandimaging.com/images/mk1sn2_front_view.jpg www.narrowbandimaging.com/images/mk1sn2_robofocus_head2.jpg ...
Hi Richard, Thanks for the images. I'm not looking for anything in particular but I find I get a lot from looking at how other people have solved their...
yeah I need to fix that image some people say all my astroimages are out of focus too. there's always someone that has an axe to grind it seems nothing like...
... Wow, Richard, that is an interesting thought progression. It brings to mind either Faulknerian stream-of-consciousness, or paranoia, I'm not sure which! ...
Hi Richard, That does remind me - what's the approximate image scale of the stinger/FLI? I can't tell focusing errors from seeing errors and mount problems...
i focus using Focus max to drive the focuser and control the exposures but usually simply sweep out a "Vee curve" and then look at it and pick the spot that...
Those tadpoles are way cool, Richard! You've captured so much detail. It's amazing how the tadpole that is down and to the left has a structure that forms a...

Last night was my first night at Willow Springs. Thanks Bob! It's a great place. I was glad to be driving an all wheel drive car to get there though. It is...
What image processing programs is everyone using? Has anyone found anything that can deal with large image files effectively? I'm stacking 6 megapixel color...
i use either maxim dl 3.21 or registar for registering images for stacking i still use sigma prebeta 11 typically but it cannot usually handle too much data...
What really needs to happen is that Maxim needs to be rewritten to work on "bands" across a set of images, so that it never tries to load them all in at once....
... I use Maxim for everything. Yes, it bogs down. But I don't have the inclination to do a lot of research to find something better, when it works so well. So...
they had better do something in a hurry because with the move to 16 megapixel cameras happening NOW and with Vista on the horizon, the time has never been...
