This is a request to nominate teachers from the Silicon Valley
Engineering Council. I thought some of you might know some teachers who
work to get robotics programs or shop classes in their schools (this
comes under "technology programs") We are now approaching the deadline
for Keeper of the Flame award teacher nominations and have no
nominees so far. We'll have to push back the deadline by a week.
Please help us to honor a deserving teacher! If you know of a K-12
teacher who fights to keep math, science, or technology incorporated in
their classes and high standards despite resistance from
administration, lack of funding or support, please nominate them for
this award. The nomination form is fairly short. We honor the
winner with the title "Keeper of the Flame" and a check for $500.
Please contact Jack with any questions. ~Elise

Nominations for the 2008 Keeper of the Flame Award were
extended by a week to 11/3.
The Keeper of the Flame Award, created by the Silicon Valley Engineering
Council in 2002, is intended to recognize and honor those heroes of K-12
education who have distinguished themselves as Keepers of the Flame of
knowledge by maintaining high standards of content in mathematics,
science, or technology instruction in the face of significant
resistance. These teachers display great integrity in heroically
defying the education establishment, not pandering to the latest whims
of educrats and seeing to it that their students actually do learn
mathematics and science.
Thus, this award differs from other teaching awards in that it is not
just one more award intended to recognize outstanding teaching ability.
If you know of a teacher who fits this description, please nominate that
teacher for the Silicon Valley Engineering Council's Keeper of the Flame
Award by means of the nomination form found at the following
