Try changing it from:

G:\PROGRAM FILES\NTS\NOTETAB.EXE /INI=NOTETABCD.INI

To:

"G:\PROGRAM FILES\NTS\NOTETAB.EXE" /INI=NOTETABCD.INI

The space in the path name can cause problems.

A launch syntax that will work for XP is
simply c:\progra~1\noteta~1\notetab.exe and if you
want you can stick that line in a batch file in
c:\Windows\system32 and it will launch either from the
command bar or the command line. I happen to call it
n.bat. So simply hitting the letter n and return will
launch Notetab.

Subject: Problem opening log files with NoteTab pro
christophe.delaunay@...
Send Email Send Email

Hi listers,

I am experiencing a strange problem whan I want to open a log file with
NoteTab pro 4.95.

Here is a short description of the scenario

(1) I start an application which writes its traces into a log file called
"out.txt".

(2) After the application is initialized, I open "out.txt" into NoteTab to
see what happens. The application is still running.

(3) As the log file has a strange format, I must issue a "find & replace"
command in order to get lines in a readable format. Until now, everything
goes fine.

(4) When I notice everything is correct in my log file, I switch back to my
application and issue commands. As a result, the traces of these commands
are appended to the log file.

(5) Back to NoteTab, I hear the "Question" Windows sound, which means that a
dialog box asking me a question was opened but this dialog box is not
visible. All I can see on the screen is the NoteTab application window.

So I assume that this hidden dialog box is opened by NoteTab in order to ask
me if I want to reload "out.txt" but where is it hidden?

How can I bring this dialog box onscreen so I have a chance to answer it ?

Many thanks in advance. Have a nice day. Chris

You're correct. This problem often plagues programs like NoteTab that are
written in Delphi. I've had similar experienced with a number of programs,
including Norton Antivirus. Not sure if the source of the bug is in Windows
or Delphi.

>How can I bring this dialog box onscreen so I have a chance to answer it ?

Try cycling through open windows using the Alt+ESC keyboard shortcut. I
usually manage to display masked windows this way.

Hope this helps.

Hi All,

When I installed NoteTab Pro 4.95 everything went well until it finished. A
window then came up asking is I would like to check a couple of times a
month for updates. Thinking this might be a good idea I responded yes. The
program responded as if I couldn't get into a webpage. When I got tired of
waiting I tried to close down NoteTab and found I was locked up. Finally
Ctrl+Alt+Delete let me see NoteTab was not responding. When I tried to
close it, it re-booted.

When it all came up again I tried to get onto 'www.notetab.com' I couldn't
get in. I even tried some of the .net's for notetab and couldn't get in.
Other web pages allowed me in but just not Notetab.

This morning I went on ok so I downloaded the wrapper again and re-loaded
it. This time it didn't ask about checking for updates periodically.
4.95/np (Full Version) is installed and seems to work fine. Is there anyway
I can get this checking for updates working? Is it like F2 on Easy Imager?

Eric, Lloyd,

I was away for the weekend, got back Sunday afternoon, downloaded the
new version of NoteTab Pro and had trouble very similar to Lloyds'.

My thought is the Update apparatus is tied to tightly to NoteTabs'
function. In my case I eventually found out the web site wasn't
available at the time.

NoteTab froze in various stages, from all text and icons disappearing
from the edit window to a totally white screen inside the outside edit
window border.

I was able to abort NoteTab thru the task manager without the need to
reboot. I also reinstalled the previous version with the same symptoms,
freeze-up and fouled up displays.

This happened Sunday and part of Monday, website unavailable, with the
foregoing results. Later Monday, and so far today, I just tried it,
it's working fine.

If you check for updates or poll for news and the website is unavailable
NoteTab freezes. My interim solution is/was, uncheck 'Poll for News'
and don't 'Check for Updates' unless you have several minutes to kill.

Eric et al,

I just installed 4.95 over 4.86 on an XP machine and the installation was
flawless and the News and Update feature worked perfectly.

It must have been the timing :-)

Hi Everybody: I am new to notetab, and to both of these list. the question I
have is: Is their any thing in this program of notetab that will help me to
do html with Style Sheets?
Because when I look at the clips they ask for the specifying Text and
Background Values that I would put in my Style Sheets.
question 2: Is their a manual for notetab and how to do clips in a text
file? You see I am blind, and I like to read manuals in text format.

I download a file (every month) that only has a linefeed character (hex 0A) at
the end of each line instead of newline combo of hex 0D0A (carriage
return/linefeed). But I need to have it with the newline combo instead of just
the linefeed when I process it as input to another program. So, I opened it in
Notepad Pro and did the following to try to get the carriage return insterted:

Replace command with "Regular expressions" checked, Search: \l Replace: \n
Make sure the cursor is at the top of the file, then click "Replace All"

It says 722 occurrences replaced (correct number of linefeeds). But after saving
the file and checking the file with a hex viewer it still only has each line
ending with a linefeed (no carriage return).

The only way I can get it to work is:

1. Insert any character before the first linefeed character in the file
2. Using my hex editor, change that new character to hex 0D.
3. Do the same Replace command as stated earlier which this time works.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get it changed correctly using just
Notepad Pro?
It seems like it needs at least one carriage return in the file before it works.

You shouldn't have to go through all of that with NoteTab [not Notepad].
From the menu select View/Options. Then select the Documents tab and near
the bottom of the box where it says "Save As", select "DOS\Windows". Now
everytime you load a file like this, NoteTab automatically converts the
single line feed characters to the cr/lf pair. If you want to preserve the
old file use save as or the single line feed file will be overwritten by
the cr/lf file.

In NoteTab Light, at least: Search for ^l replace with ^p

I haven't tried this (I have no Unix text files to test with), but you can try
opening the file in NoteTab, then going to Document|Properties and using the
dropdown combo under Format to select DOS/Windows as the Save As mode (which
defaults to "Original"). While in this dialog you can click the Help button,
which describes this option under "Save As." Might not have to use regex at all.

Thanks Larry, Geoff & Scott,

I tried the easiest solution you all gave me by changing the "Save
as" to "DOS/WINDOWS" and that worked great. I take it that the file I
download was a Unix file and Unix just uses linefeed only. And yes, I
meant to say NoteTab Pro (not Notepad).

Thanks again,

if you work with any cgi scripts, perl and the like, using windows line feed
characters will ruin them, so be careful not to use this setting out of

of course you can convert back, but it will give you errors until you do

Well, yeah, true, but it depends... ;-)

If you use ActivePerl (designed to run under Windows), it apparently takes care
of the line ending dichotomy for you.

Come to think of it, I edited the formmail script in Windows and FTPed it to my
client's site and it ran like a charm. Hmmm... maybe it depends on the host
system. If your script is running in a Unix environment, there would (might?) be
a problem. If not, maybe not(?).

In that case, it would depend on whether you transfer the file as
ASCII or binary. If ASCII, the FTP software takes care of any
conversion necessary.

I may not be able to help but go to the Options panel and look at the
Internet Tab. Mine shows:

Main Browser
C:\Internet\Netscape\Communicator\Program\netscape.exe

Other Browser
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Iexplore.exe

What does yours say?

Hi Larry, yes, mine is about the same as yours, although the exe file name is
the same. The path is correct. I have been using Notetab for well over two
years, but upgraded etc. Not sure what the problem is. I know that when I put
in a crazy executable in the blank, then run the program and select that option,
it runs the program just fine. I think I have a problem with MS, but am still
looking for the answer.

Thanks for your recommendation,
Vic

usually it does not?
f3 is search forward and shift-f3 reverses the search direction.

Hi Nicole.
The shift+f3 key only changes the search direction, but the key to search again,
f3, is the same.
If I press shift+f3 I don't knou if Notetab will search up or down!
I need two shortcut keys.
As in Winword for exemple, ctrl+pgdown search down and ctrl+pgup search up.
I would just get that using clips
Regards.

Unless giving administrator rights to the user ('no, Sir' said the
boss...), NoteTab Light can't remember the files left open on close.
Same problem with the options. Obviously a rights issue on some file
or folder, but I can't find which one. User has full control on the
NTL folder, and setting the same rights on a file named NTL.uni in
c:\windows after checking the last modified files didn't solve the
problem. Any clue ?

Hi Victor and Larry,

If you are running in Windows ME, please read Browsers.dat found
in Help under the Index tab. In short, set UseDDE to equal a
zero: UseDDE=0 in the Browsers.dat file. It is found in
NoteTab's main folder under the [ie] section and possibly play
with it for other browsers like [Mozilla] I think most of them
use DDE..

No, it's happening to me too. When I choose open, it gives me a
blank page. And on others, when I choose tidy on html, it gives me
an error message having to do with NoteTab.exe.

Anyone else having this problem. It used to work until I downloaded
the latest version. I'm using the free version.

I ahven't had the missing tabs problem since I mentioned it had gone
away

Now when I run HTML Tidy it tells me the NoteTab Generated HRML
clip is incorrect, improperly capitalized and "Summary attribute"
missing.

I fixed the capitalization. what is the Summary attribute?

I sometimes do a large amount of global replacing with documents
open, and changes in an extensive text in a single document. I use
the Trplace all a lot.

However in latge amounts of replacements I sometimes wait a long
time not knowing if I have a hang-up, or if the process is continuing
normally.

Also while a global replacement is in progress the pop-up STAYS on top
and immobile and if I look at other open programs it is dead square
in the middle of my screen, and until the process ends, I have to work
around it. It doesn't drag, it doesn't minimize.

Suggestions, can this be run "in the background" and can there be a
progress indicator?

Always on top is NOT good if I multitask while NoteTab is processing
changes.
