So it worked for SOMEBODY. It downloaded and installed but it gave me an
error saying some files had to be updated from my Win2K system disk.
It failed to recognize my CD. But the program worked anyway. AND I was
finally able to replace the MS Notepad just like in the good old days.
As for the sound scheme.... I have no idea where the "use MS Office Sounds"
option went to but it's no longer orbvious. Still.

Me too!

It upgraded flawlessly from NoteTab Pro v5.0 to v5.3 using the Help
Menu option "Check for Updates". The second item in the "Fookes
SOftware News and Updates" window even says: "2007/07/06 Click to
download version 5.3 again"

It did change. In fact, it couldn't harm to upgrade to 5.2 anyway.
5.3 is for tomorrow.

Just another data point - I upgraded from 5.1 to 5.3 without problems.

I found it. A quick install of NoteTab Light 4.95 and I found my missing
feature.

In the menu bar go to

View -> Options

From the options menu, select "View"
And under the Applications section I found the line that says "MS-Office
Sounds"

It was gone by NTP 5.2 (I forget about 5.0 as I only used a trial version
prior to upgrading which didn't last long) and is still missing.

And... well... I miss it too, Eric.

Here's a fancy little error I just received:

Access violation at address 00409F67 in module 'NotePro.exe'. Read of address
00000000

So what did I do? I tried to save a text file with the first character in the
file name as a period.

Why do a goofy little thing like that? I tried installing some Microsoft thing
they calle the .net framework. I could't install version 3 because it requires
Windoze XP.

So the memo I wrote to myself started with

.net

Apparently the current NoteTab doesn't like that.

Oh yeah, I have also found unfortunately that NoteTab is still setting some of
my files on "read only" status behind my back. That's still an issue.

And what do I do? Send these bug reports or stop complaining? Anyhow I just
thought I'd say something.

The best place to send bug reports is through the Support page:
http://www.notetab.com/support.php

Which version of NoteTab Pro are you using? I tried saving a new file
called ".net" in NoteTab Pro 5.3 and had no error. It worked fine.

GROAN, you're not a Mac/Linux Nazi, are you?
Is that why are you using Windows?

If you're not concerned with Unicode, try clearing the NoteTab option
"Protect unicode files".
That solved this problem for me.

Not sure what happens to "unprotected unicode" files. Perhaps they get
converted to Ansi.

Actually if I get a larger hard drive then I may be able to use a dual/trio
system of Windoze, Linux and DOS.
Fact being I have lots of Windoze stuff and still lots of DOS stuff. I can't
abandon it all too easily and start over, especially since I thought I heard
NoteTab is only available in a Windoze version.

Allow me to be the first, of what I am sure will be many, to inform you that
NTB 5 has been out since for a long time..in fact Eric just released V5.3.

You may want to check the website for more details.

The OP has asked a valid question that I was just musing on yesterday.
To my knowledge there is no LIGHT version of NTB 5. According to the
site, NoteTab Light 4.95 is the only version available. So I second the
question - when will NoteTab Light 5 be available????

I don't have NoteTab running right now, but the best way to learn what
options you have is to EXPLORE.

Start in the "View" menu, select Options, then explore all the tabs.

My guess would be under the General or Document tab.

Please keep in mind that this setting also serves as a protection when a binary

It's generally safest to just go ahead and re-load.

There are several possibilities.

If you get the warning immediately on starting up NoteTab, it just
means that a tab is pointing to a file which has been updated by some
other program since you last had this copy of NoteTab open. If you
update, nothing (of your changes) are likely to be lost, and it will
insure you are working with the latest copy of the file.

If the warning arrives while you are editing a file, updating will
likely lose your most recent changes (since your last save), but it
is still the safest procedure, since the alternative will be to have
two different copies of the same file to confuse you or another
program in future. If you don't re-load, you may wind up with at
least two copies of the file which must be resolved at some point.
Or, there is also the possibility that you will overwrite some
legitimate changes made by another program (when you do a future
save)-- confusing that program.

Have fun; and welcome to the (asynchronous) world of multi-threading
and multi-processing.

Eric, I totally understand. I have a question. I have been using
NoteTab Light for years and see no reason to switch to Std or Pro. Is
there a way to make a contribution in appreciation of the Light

Thanks.

Yes, of course, buy either standard or pro. There are advantages and it
is a donation. But you will like things like multiple undos for
example. Worth upgrading.

Hello All
I am trying to start a blog using Word Press but I still have to edit
the XTML. I used Note Tab in the past and I'm pretty sure that I
purchased either the standard or pro edition it's been awhile and I
can't find my purchase documents or my download. I think the last
time I used it was 2 computers back. It seems to me that I used to be
able to import my pages to edit then load them back to the server.
Right now I am running on the demo copy of the pro edition and I
can't seem to find out how to do this. In fact it may not be possible
given the many files the WP software uses. If anyone can give me some
pointers on this I would really appriciate it.

How can I import my page for editing in Note Tab?

One more thing I picked up note tab again because it was suggested
(on one of the WP forums) that I validate my code. Using the W3C.org
validator I get a nice listing but the line numbers given for the
errors do not corrispond to the line numbers given by Note Tab.

How can I make w3c and note tab line numbers equal?

Thanks

Try turning off word wrap in NoteTab. I have the same problem when I'm
using Tidy.

By the way, here is is a feature I REALLY would like: being able to
number lines in "non-word-wrapped" mode even when word wrapping is
turned on. It's really annoying having to turn off word wrapping to jump
to the right line and then having to turn it back on because the
referred line is, like, 500 characters long.

I have this one someone sent me some years ago... (Don?)

JUMP 2 Line #
^!Jump DOC_START
^!Set %word_wrap%=^$IsWordWrap$
^!SetWordWrap 0
^!Set %jump_number%=^?[Enter Line Number]
^!Jump ^%jump_number%

Normally if we are discussing clips, it would move to the Clips support
list.

Thank You Marcelo

That helps but only by 1 or 2 lines the discrepancy I'm looking at is 60
some lines of code

Note Tab shows 709 lines W3C shows only 641 lines. I think this is
caused by all the white

space in the template I'm using. At this point I don't want to try
using tidy because it is

a Word Press Theme.

Thanks Again

AFAIK there is no way to import and edit WP pages because of the way
data is stored.

Content added to WP needs to be entered via their administrative
interface. All entries are then stored in the SQL database.

What I do is code the content entries (including appropriate CSS) and
then just copy and paste as necessary in the admin GUI.

If you want to test your code on a particular page, save the source,
put that in NoteTab and futz with the code for the content you want to
add until you get it as you want. Then copy and paste the content you
have coded via the admin interface.

Hope that makes sense.

Marcello - agree it would be very nice! Essentially off-topic so if any
further discussion on following please continue on OFF-TOPIC but another
freeware editor (PSPAD) does support this and in addition the ability to
do FIND and get a bottom of window panel display showing all hits with
clickable line numbers.

*Unfortunately* when word-wrapping is enabled in it - it jumps to the
wrong line number. :-(
I first reported this as a bug in PSPAD several years and versions ago.
To my knowledge its never been corrected so its clearly NOT an easy fix.

PS. I think I may have misunderstood your question. If you want to edit
the WP skin/theme (as opposed to content), you'll need to create a new
style in the wp-content/themes sub-folder. You can open the php
modules of the default (or any other theme) in NoteTab and alter the
markup to fit your layout needs and and then make additions or changes
to the style.css file to get the look that you want.

It took me quite a while to learn how the various parts of WP fit
together. It's kinda complicated so be patient. :)

Thanks for the reply
I am new to WP and php. Was just hoping against hope it was possible
because if you view source it looks like a regular web page.
Thanks
