It only seems to happen if there is no directory info showing for the current
document on the title bar. I think the solution is to save a file at least once
before attempting to view it in the browser. Then (if the document is
subsequently modified) the efo file is temporarily written to document's home
directory (and removed when NoteTab is closed).

This doesn't sound quite correct ??

Could behavior somehow depend on location of notepro.ini file (%appdir%
or %progfiles%)?
I just cleared all open file info from Notetab (with ^!Close
ALL,DISCARD) exited and restarted Notetab.
I typed a couple of words into NoName01.txt then did Document_to_HTML
which created a new document NoName.htm
Clicking Open_in_Browser opened
file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Alec/efo~3.htm (not sure why it
was "~3"?
Later ... I used Everything to search all drives for anything starting
with efo~ and found these:

> C:\Documents and Settings\Alec\Application Data\NoteTab
> Pro\Libraries\efo~1.htm
> C:\Documents and Settings\Alec\Application Data\NoteTab
> Pro\Libraries\efo~2.htm

> Pro\Libraries\efo~3.htm
> C:\Documents and Settings\Alec\Application Data\NoteTab
> Pro\Libraries\efo~3.txt

All but efo~3.txt are at least one month old (possibly from crashes etc
that had nothing to do with Notetab and left remenants around). After
again clearing open files, closing open files and deleting the four
files above and repeating the above procedure this time the file created
is file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Alec/efo~1.htm which makes
sense after delete files above.

I've no idea why, absent a defined location from a previously saved
version of the file, it chose above location. I would have expected (and
preferred) that it use system level defined %temppdir% (wherever in
Registry or environment that is normally defined) or perhaps an option
in Notetab itself.

FWIW: in Options-Files I have:
Directories - Match Directory=ON, Use Default Directories=OFF and Open
Directory=Save Directory=null (ie. left blank)

David: could you check the values you have set for above Options and
whether or not you have notepro.ini in %progfiles% rather than %appdir%?
(I think unless you explicitly forced it to %progfiles% the only reason
you would have it in %progfiles% would be if you'd updated to Notetab 5
from Notetab 4.x and chose during installation to install on top of the
old %progfiles% location.

Ah yes, Sheri is right -- this only happens with a new and
not-yet-saved file. Perhaps it's a benign plot by NoteTab to
encourage us to save our work!

In fact I find that Version 4.9 (which I still have on board) behaves
in the same way, so perhaps over the years I never happened to try
"View in Browser" with an unsaved file.

What's interesting too is that as soon as one HTML file is saved by
NoteTab, further new HTML files can be viewed in the browser even if
they are not yet saved. The first saved file blazes a trail, so to
speak.

Alec ... my installation is the standard one with the ini files etc
going into the user's %appdir% folder. It would be logical to make
this the destination for efo~ files from unsaved documents -- putting
them in %progfiles% looks like a leftover from the old versions.

EFO files are "executed" as text files until the HTML extension has
been saved to it, because the computer doesn't know which program to
associate with it yet.

If you renamed it to a html extension before saving it, or set html as
your default extension it probably would open the browser and display.
Before saving.

You should also redirect the save to a different folder. ( somewhere you
can of course automatically go to routinely)

Okay, I understand. I was trying to configure one of the Notepad "flavours"
to be a suitable notepad replacement. My conclusion was that it just
won't work.
Instead I am forced to use Metapad or Notepad2.
Reasons:
NoteTab Pro won't drag-n-drop to and from other applications, and
NoteTabLight only has ONE undo! If NoteTabLight supported multiple
undos, it would be the winner.

I understand what you mean about not being able to put drag-n-drop
into NoteTab Pro. NTP is very powerful, and I love it for that.

NoteTabLight is versatile, but the undo-limit is crippling.

Oh well. Much thanks and grats to the makers!

God bless.

Notetab Light and Standard use one input control (which supports drag
and drop between applications) while Notetab Pro uses another. The
Notetab Pro input control offers other advantages which the Notetab
Light and Standard's do not.

btw: If using Second Window feature in Light or Standard drag+drop works
between them whereas it does not in Notetab Pro.

So ... short answer is "Can't be done" w/o total rewrite of Notetab Pro
(of greater complexity than the change from Notetab 4.x to Notetab 5).

If you look at the Help-Comparison chart between "flavors" of Notetab
you'll see that Notetab Light and Standard have much in common. I hadn't
looked at it recently and noticed with some surprise that drag+drop
isn't one of the rows in that table. That feature is the one feature
that occasionally motivates me to open my copy of Notetab Light. The
other substantial difference, Variable width fonts, isn't something that
bothers me - YMMV :-)

Jeff -- the docs I'm describing were never .txt files but began life
as .htm files, created by clicking on the 'New Web page' icon. It's
not the extension that causes the behaviour, just the sending of the
temporary file to an area inaccessible to limited users, namely
c:\Program Files\NoteTab Pro 6. As I said, I suspect this routine is
left over from earlier versions, and might need bringing into line
with the way NoteTab now stores items in the user area. (Not a
problem, though, since it's solved by saving the file.)

When I try to select the text in an entire line by either triple clicking in the
line or pointing the arrow before the line I select the line but a trailing
blank space is included. The only way to exclude the trailing blank line is to
manually drag to select the line of text. Is there a setting to control this?

Thanks,

Are you speaking of the line break which is at the end of the line, or actual
spaces? If actual (unwanted) spaces, you can use Modify Lines, Trim Blanks. If
you just want to shorten the selection, you could use Shift+LeftArrow.

If you need a custom command to select something in a certain way, it can be
done using a clip.

Sheri

Thanks Sheri,

Shift+LeftArrow removes the space and shortens the selection. Is there anythings
I can change in the options so the extra space is not selected when I try to
select the entire line?

If spaces are not valid at the end of your lines, you can use the trim
whitespace function to remove them first, then
you won't have to worry about it. That function works as you open a document, so
you don't have to activate it each
time. Otherwise, you can use Find and Replace to remove the spaces, or write a
clip to do it.

I still think the extra space you are talking about is actually the line break.
If you copy the selection to the clip board and paste it somewhere, it pastes it
as a whole line, not as a sequence of characters. What gets selected when you
click, double-click and triple-click is determined by the underlying richedit
control and doesn't have any options AFAIK.

You could have a custom button on your clipbar that selects all but the line
break, or up to any trailing spaces. The cursor could be anywhere in the
paragraph when you click your button. Please post on the clips list if you'd
like to do that.

NoteTab on C drive I find my Library gone and a very old library that was on the
USB drive in its place.

I've used USB drives many times without this happening.

What happened? Why? How to prevent this from happening again?

As far as I can tell my latest Library is gone.

Is there a way to restore?

You may not get a lot of answers, because the solutions may permanently make
your library disappear.

Look (manually) in the following locations for your errant lib:

1. "C:\program files\{NoteTab folder}\libraries"

2. "C:\documents and settings\{your user ID}\Application data\NoteTab
Pro\libraries"

If your lucky, one of these paths may ghave the original GOOD library.

Good luck

I have noticed an odd bug with search/replace in NoteTab Light 6.12

I perform a lot of search/replaces on text files to change ^L to ^P, and when I
do I get the usual message, eg "173 replacement(s) made in text". However - and
here is where the bug appears - if I then click "Replace all" again (even though
there are no ^L characters to be replaced) I get a message saying the exact same
number of replacements have been made. If I then click "Replace all" yet again,
as well as the message I get two ^C characters inserted before each ^P
character!

I believe that you are trying to replace Line-feed characters,
represented by the token ^L, with Paragraph characters, represented by
the token ^P -- see regular Help, "Find in Files". Since the Paragraph
character is in fact a carraige-return/line-feed pair, NoteTab always
will find new Line-feeds to replace. If you're trying to do something
different, let us know, and I'm sure someone will have a solution for that.

IIRC it will work if you do a disk search. Or should I call it disk
replace? Ctrl +D. The easiest is to use File | Export and export in
Windows format.

If it hasn't changed in the latest version, haven't kept up, Notetab
will always use Windows line endings when displaying a document even
if it's saved in another format.

See the "FAQ" page in the NoteTab help file. It says that feature is not
currently available in Vista. However, you can use the "Associations" tab in
Options (provided you haven't disabled "Advanced Features") to associate NoteTab

I'm just guessing here, but the only thing I can think of that file
associations won't fix is View Source in IE. If that's what you want
and don't want to hack the registry manually, try this little tool (free).

I am considering purchasing NoteTab Standard. All my settings, libraries, etc.
are installed in the folder Program Files/NoteTab Std Trial. Will the purchased
version install in a new folder or in the NoteTab Std Trial folder? Will I have
to relocate all my libraries and redo all my settings? What is the best way to
migrate from NoteTab Std Trial to the purchased version?

Thanks,

Karl

I have the newest version of NoteTab Stand, but I use to use one where the
URL's would appear in a different color from the test. This was helpful for
seeing mistakes in coding and for embedding images.

I enjoy using NoteTab for writing my script to use with stationery for
Windows Mail program. If someone could help me, please, to get these URL's
to show in a different color would be really appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

Millie

It's a user setting. View | Options | Internet , tick the box labeled
"Highlight URLs" . I'd tick "Underline URLs" too.

Hi Lotta,

Thank you for the information, but I'm not able to see where I should tick the
box. Here is a screen capture

My NoteTab says Ver 6.12 full version.
What could be different? Or am I looking in the wrong place?

Thanks for any help.

Hugs, Millie
