I just changed the "Folder Options" for my TXT files ("open" item) to NoteTab
Light and those switches. Worked fine. Now double-clicking txt files opens them
in NTL with previously specified options. Also added the no-splash switch, /NS

I just read this thread today, and viola, it spoke exactly to a need I
encountered an hour earlier -- I wanted to run NoteTab Light from a
batch file and use one of my NotePro Clips. The above showed me exactly
how to do it! (I could also show people an hours worth of ways it can't
be done!)
Thanks for your continuing contributions to these lists.

Hi, I've done this before but I can't remember how I did it! I seem to
remember a box opened up to type in the text string and to assign the

the Clipbook libraries. I'm probably over looking something obvious, but

You probably have disabled "Show Advanced Features". Its on the "View" tab in
Options.

You can put various text strings into clips (new items in existing or new clip
libraries).

To invoke the clips you need to have the clip library loaded (showing when you
press F4) and then double-click (can be configured to work instead with
single-click) the item. Or, you can press Esc while editing, and select the clip
there.

The last clip used can be reused with Ctrl+Spacebar.

Another possibility is to enable the Auto-Replace mode. Then you can type the
name of the clip in your document and when you press the enter or spacebar, the
clip name is erased and the clip text is inserted.

If you have Standard or Pro (or are viewing Commercial Features in Light) you
can have ClipBars, but that is more clicking, not invoking with the keyboard.

Clips can be just text, or they can have instructions and be like little
scripts.

Invoking clips with configurable hotkeys can be done, but it requires additional
software.
<http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/ntb-clips/files/CustomClipkeysInfo.html> . I
would suggest to join the clips list and become more familiar with the standard
ways of making and using clips before trying that.

Sheri

Hi Alec, Dave, John, Sheri, and All,

Many thanks to you for this valuable thread. You have gone beyond answering my
original question which was <Where to copy my customized NotePro.ini file when
moving from a WinXP PC to a Win7 PC?>

In my case, the answer is to copy NotePro.ini into the "C:\
Users\RAS\AppData\Roaming\NoteTab Pro" folder.

I could have followed John's advice to do the job more simply, but the free
"Everything" utility suggested by Alec got my attention first. Here's the link
again: http://www.voidtools.com/

I don't ever use NT Lite. Also I have installed most of my programs (including
NTP) onto the D drive. Maybe that explains why my original attempt (placing
NotePro.ini into D:\Program Files\NoteTab Pro6) didn't work.

Bottom line: Problem solved. I have a new utility in my toolkit. I learned a
little more about NoteTab.

Again, thanks to all.

Not sure i'm posting in the right group. I remember having something specific
for clips but, anyway, here it goes.

I'm looking for a clip to calculate the day of the week according to a given
date in this way:

I write
20041106-
then I click a key combination and notetab calculates and completes:
20041106-Fri

Please, let me know if you have something or can give me hints on how to get it.

Thanks. Orks.

You probably want to post over on the Clips list (see the end of this
message for subscribe linka id you're not already on that list.) What
you want will involve ^$GetDay()$ and several other functions and commands.

Right click a text file, choose Open with, Set default Program, then choose
NoteTab.

Eric,

Eb has found a bug in ^$GetDate(yyyy.mm.dd;+/-days)$.

Same bug is in Standard and Pro.

Specifying a second plus/minus parameter doesn't work.

Hi, I'm using Notetab for the first time although I'm coming from a similar
program that had a very simple, basic clipboard with a running list of all the
text that copied from different sources (i.e., any text I copy would immediately
show up in the clipboard list) so that I could then double-click and paste into
my document.

I see that Notetab has several ready-made 'clipbook libraries' and I'm sorry for
asking such a basic question, but I can't seem a similar basic clipboard library
anywhere in Notetab. It's probably obvious, but I would be grateful if someone
can point out to me how to do it. Thanks.

I don't think it does that actually. There are some other products that do.

Clips are the bomb and one certainly could be built to do something like
that.

Notetab refers to it as a "Paste Board"
On Menu-Documents select [Use as Paste Board] (shortcut Shift+Ctrl+P)
and everything you copy (from any application not just Notetab) will be
appended to the file designated as Paste Board.

Note: You can also put the icon for this action on the toolbar.

Read Help-[Paste-Board Feature] for more info.

I have a clip that I think does what you want. We aren't supposed to
talk too much about clips or post them here on the Basic list, so I
posted it on the Clip list. You can sign up to that, which you
probably should anyway if you are interested in clips, or you can
read it on the web. Hope the clip works for you.

Subject: Printing from NoteTab Light
j.wagg
Send Email Send Email

I have been a longtime user of NoteTab Light--back at least to v4.86. A few
years ago, after an upgrade, it stopped printing; by that, I mean blank pages
came out of the printer. Although I tried to figure it out by myself several
times, I finally found this forum today.

There was enough information here that I now know what the problem is, but I
hope there is some kind of work-around so I can go back to my old setup.

For as long as I have used the program, I have had << File > Page Setup > Text >
Use document font >> checked (this option may have been in a different place in
previous versions).

For the document font, I have always used Lucida Sans Typewriter - Regular -
11pt. Occasionally I use a different typeface, and the printer always followed
my choice in the document.

I also set << View > Options > Colors >> so the background is dark blue and the
text is white--similar to Word's option of "Blue background, white text".

Now I realize that at some point in version revisions, the printer started
following the "colors" scheme, instead of printing black, regardless of the
color setting. When I unhooked "Use document font" today, it printed black text
again.

Is there any way for me to get the previous behavior back, where printing
ignored the selected color display scheme? I never had to worry about there
being a difference between what I saw and what was printed in the older version,
but now there is one more thing to worry about for printing.

Hi Lotta,

Thanks very much for helping me out with this. Unfortunately, even with your
very detailed instructions and with the small fix you noted, I can't seem to get
it to work.

I really like Notetab's pre-made clipbook libraries but until Notetab can make
this running clipboard function a standard feature, I think I'm going to use a
different text editor for my regular use. Nonetheless, thank you again for your
kind assistance.

Although the programming-based solutions being discussed on the Clips list are
ingenious, there is a much simpler built-in capacity to do what you want.

Use the Shift key in association with your copy command and NoteTab does exactly
what you want (that is place a copy of the selected text into the current Clip
Library).

See the following extracts from "Create Clipbook Libraries" in NoteTab Help

The easiest way to create a library is by typing a new name in the library combo
box which is just above the Clipbook list. Once you've typed a name for your
library and pressed the Enter key, NoteTab will ask you if you want to create a
new library. When you answer yes, it will add the new library name to the combo
box. The Clipbook list window will be empty at this stage.

... you can add new items by selecting text in your document and then pressing
Ctrl+Shift+C (or selecting Add from Document from the editor's shortcut menu) to
add it to the current Clipbook library. You will then be prompted to enter a
header for the text, after which it is added to the Clipbook.

I find myself hoping that the OP comes back to this forum, if only to see that
there are indeed easy ways to get NoteTab to accomplish the original request.

I hope the OP comes back also to see that asking newbie questions can be helpful
to people who've used NoteTab for a long time (and can't imagine life without!).
Both the clip discussion and this latest post have been helpful, making me aware
of features/options that I haven't used in the past, but can definitely see
occasional use for in future work.

And thanks also to everyone who makes these forums so valuable.

That's true. But the OP said he wanted to compile a list of text
copied from different sources and then Copy to Clipbook isn't enough.

Perhaps I should have extended the quoted material to include ...

"You can also add text from other applications by copying it to
Windows' clipboard. Open the Clipbook's list box shortcut menu and
select Add from Clipboard."

Which should take care of any "different sources" that are not able to
be opened in NTB (albeit requiring two more clicks).

Like Michael I thought that I was an experienced user but was unaware
of such basic functionality until pushed back into the documentation
while trying to "reverse engineer" Lotta's excellent work being
developed through the Clip's list.

Just goes to show that lists work best when newbies, mavens (and even
sometimes, old lurkers) all contribute to the discussion.

True again. I didn't think about that option. I think the way we
interpret a question, especially if everything isn't spelt out in
great detail, is often colored by our own needs and experiences. In
hindsight, I guess I assumed some degree of automation was desired,
but the OP didn't really say that. Gosh, hope I'm not turning into a
do-it-with-a-clip-even-if-it-isn't-needed person. I wouldn't want that. ;-)

Maybe you were aware of it once. One forgets the things one doesn't
use. I have probably glanced through information about the problems
with getting a library path if the library is stored in Appdata more
than once, but since I wouldn't dream of giving up my ini, it doesn't
interest me very much so I forget.

Amen!
