thanks for your help.

no it MS Office professional 2010. also, its not XML as i can recognize
that format. what's strange is that if i paste into MS Word and then save
as text and then paste into Excel it works. but once it lands in NT Pro 6
it often will not paste or isnert into Excel anymore.

thanks,
billy

This is beginnig to sound like some control characters like form feed, or nulls
from Unicode, are being converted or erased by Word, but not by NoteTab. Try
toggling "preserve Unicode" in NoteTab options.

Anyway, why not post some of the offending html text, so we can try to duplicate
your problem. Make sure it is a sample that you have experienced the problem
with, straight from notetab.

I routinely paste columns of numbers and text from NTP 6.2 to Excel without
problems.

As I mentioned earlier, you can eliminate that possibility by copying the text
from one doc and
pasting to a new one, then saving it, with the default save as Dos/Windows. I
have had to do that on
many occasions. If it works, you know that is what the problem was. It is a VERY
simple
troubleshooting step, and can also just let you get on with your chore.

John

No attachments are allowed on this list - not even additional HTML
parts! Hence this appended to your text:

(If you're seeing HTML from the list it's because you have not changed
the default setting that allows Yahoo to to change it back to HTML so
they can send you lots of graphic ridden adverts!)

I probably haven't been paying quite enough attention, but I can't make out
what you are trying to do. I think you say you have an excel file. You have
some other file as well? You are trying to do something with some html; I
presume this is in a text file? You are trying to copy the html from
someplace and paste it into a cell of the excel file? (If I have that wrong,
stop me here.) If you do paste it that way, do you want it to display in
Excel as the html codes, or do you want it to show up as the html specifies,
e.g. as bold, italic, etc.?

In any case, where does NoteTab come in? Is it where you are getting or
creating the html and then copying it?

It would really help if you would start from the beginning and say what
kinds of files you have, and what you are doing with each of them, step by
step, and definitely tell us what you are trying to accomplish. I think that
you have probably given all this information at one time or another, but I
haven't been able to put it together to get a single picture of what you are
trying to do. I can't actually tell how much of the question is about
NoteTab and how much is about Excel.

Thanks....

I just had a disk crash and lost my NoteTab Standard 4.95
installation. I probably have the installation file somewhere but I
do not remember the file name. If I had that name, it would be
easier for me to find the file. Can someone please tell me what to
search for?

In what context/situation are you getting filenames involving "~" and/or "[]"?

Looks like it's hard coded:
     NTB 4.95: filename.~001
     NTB 5.80: ~filename[001].txt
     NTB 6.12: ~filename[001].txt

I hadn't noticed the change as I always just use the *.bak mode.
I can understand the change from *.bak to *[nnn].* as it preserves
the original file extension and avoids conflicts but to also add a
leading "~" seems irresponsible as it separates all of the backup
names from the original name and adds an unnecessary char to
the filename. Backup naming needs to be rethought and/or we
need more control of the behavior.

I have not been able to determine what format within NT to use so it will
directly paste into one line in an Excel call. With Word I do not have to
even save the file. i drop it in Word and ^C and then ^V into an Excel cell
and it works.

have you been able to repeat what i am seeing?

how can i get attached files to you? the forum will not allow me to do so.

sorry but what steps did you ask me to try? I think i did try them.

thanks,

Hello John,

I just tried the test again and it also displays the HTML code. What i need
is teh code to stay on one line and not to execute.

to be sure i did what you ask: i saved the HTML code within NT as ascii/DOS
text. that was the closest format to DOS/Windows I saw in the Save As
option.

what do you think/

thanks,
billy

Hello Pete,

thanks for the reply.

i do not have to use NT but it would be helpful.

what i am trying to do is copy HTML code from my source and paste into one
Excel cell (one line with no wrapping or execution of the code). MS Word
allows me to do this for some reason. I have tried several formats within NT
with no success yet.

I know that i have to remove the new paragraphs (^p) even in MS Word or not.

does that make sense now?

If the line wraps in Excel, you have it set in Excel to do so. I don't know what
you mean by
executing. I have no problem pasting HTML into Excel 2007. Each row pastes into
a separate row, and
it stays within one cell on that row. It obeys tabs, though, so it might not
always show up in
column 1.

Paste a few lines of YOUR problematic html into THIS email message so we can see
what you're trying
to paste.

John

No experience with Excel 2010, but if you want everything in one cell as
text, I would think you would need to be editing the one cell in Excel
(F2), press the apostrophe (') to indicate you are entering text, and
then paste (Ctrl-V). If that doesn't work, you might want to look at the
Paste Special options (to Paste as Text).

I'm new to Note tab Lite but saw someone take the list of keywords they had and
with a couple of moves he removed all the spaces in those keywords and was able
to copy and paste to see if any of them were available as domains. This would
save an unbelievable amount of time so I am very thankful for the answer.

Thank you

4.95 Pro, full version.

I create a file to be the pasteboard. Save it. Put the cursor in it. Select 'Use
as Pasteboard.' The file's tab turns green.

I Control-A, Control-C some copy. Nothing happens. Nothing gets pasted to the
pasteboard file.

If I Control-V, what I copied is pasted.

What am I missing?

Thanks,
ken

UPDATE and new question:

Update: I downloaded a trial of v. 6.2 Pro and the 'Use as Pasteboard' command
is working exactly as it should for me. So the problem was something with my
install of 4.95 pro.

New Question: What is the path to NotetabPro favorites in v. 6.2? In 4.95 and
earlier we had a folder named "Favorites" with a single editable file inside. I
was wanting to move that over to the v. 6.2 install, however, find no such
folder in v. 6.2.

So what to do to move over my favorites from 4.95?

Thanks,
kwc

In pre-Notetab 5 all associated sub-folders were inside the %progfiles%
folder - eg. C:\Program Files\Notetab Light
Changes in Vista (and subsequently Win-7) restrict access for most
accounts to C:\Program Files so by default (on WinXP) subfolders
previously there will now be in C:\Documents and
Settings\<user>\Application Data\NoteTab Light\Favorites etc.

Note: equivalent location in Vista and Win-7 is similar. (I think)
C:\Users\<user>\Application Data\NoteTab Light\Favorites.

btw: If you are on WinXP and want it the "old" way you can create the
folder you are going to install into ahead of time and in it either copy
an old notepro.ini or even a zero-byte empty file *named* notetab.ini.
When Notetab runs it will look for an existing ini file in its
%progfiles% and if it finds one expect its subfolders to be located there.

Assuming you have one keyword/phrase per line, just replace all spaces with
nothing, Search Menu / Replace, in the search line enter " " without the quotes,
in the replace line make sure there is no text or spaces in it, click Replace
ALL.

If you want to do this with only part of the document, select that part, and
type the same thing into the search and replace panes.

Then, if you want to add an extension, such as ".com" just replace the enod of
line "^P" with ".com^P"

Finally, if you want to automate more, ask this question in the clips group,
though it may overwhelm you at first.

Eb

Thanks Eb for responding

I highlighted the keywords e.g

removal tattoo

tattoo removal

laser tattoo removal

tattoo laser removal

remove tattoo

tattoo removal cream

tattoo removal before and after

Then went to the search tab on the menu and clicked replace.

Up came all of the keywords in a line and then underneath was "replace with"

Not sure what you mean by in the search line enter " " without the quotes.

What I'm looking to do is highlight all the keywords in total then eliminate
all the spaces.

You're probably telling me how to do this but I still don't get it.

Thanks

Nat
