Try this:

Select a range of text, then place your mouse cursor over the text insertion
cursor that is now at the end (or beginning if you dragged backwards) of the
selected text -- press and hold your left mouse button. Do you now see a
little, white, rectangular page icon show up?

The drag and drop feature works fine in my Standard version but I cannot get
it to function in my newly-installed Pro + beta version.
Any suggestions welcomed.

I get problems with some words containing a quote.

Flagged as spelled incorrectly:

     wouldn't
     doesn't
     shouldn't
     isn't

Spell check correctly:

     can't
     haven't

There may be others that work or don't work. I just wanted to show a few.
Do others have the same situation or is it just me?

Hi Jack,

Yes, I told Eric about it last month (as though he has never
seen it <g>). Hopefully something can be done about it. It
is a third party spell checker and I do not know how much Eric
can do with it. I recently just started adding them all to my
user defined dictionary because it is a real pain getting the
errors all the time. That is why only wouldn't and shouldn't
erred, but they won't now. :)

Subject: [NTB] Autoreplace not working...
kdayton@...

Autoreplace does not work when I first open NoteTab Pro (4.6a/np).

Here's what I did:
1. I created my own clipbook: "My Stuff".
2. I added "AutoReplace" to the header of the clipbook.

When I open NTP the items in the clipbook do not work when I type the clip name
and press any of the activation keys (space, enter, etc.) the clips do not work.

If I switch to another clipbook, then immediately switch back to "My Stuff",
AutoReplace works just fine with the clips.

Has this ever happened to you? I submitted a bug report to Eric but wondered if
this is a problem for anyone else and if there is a workaround for it.

Thanks.

It sounds like you manually placed the AutoReplace header in the
Library. If so, perhaps NoteTab does not like it that way or you
goofed. That is not to say there is not a bug somewhere though.

Try taking out AutoReplace via Open as Document on the Library
Window content menu (right mouse over the little upper window in
the Clipbook), save, and close. Right click over the Library and
choose Auto Replace. Shut down NoteTab and save the Library when
you get the prompt to do so. If it still fails on startup, post
what other setting you may have for Clipbook such as Show
Headers, Show Icons, Single Click to Paste...

I opened the autocorrect.clb that Eric provided and tested it and it
worked. Then I closed (quit) NoteTab. I then restarted NoteTab and it did
not work. I could start it by switching to another clipbook or by
selecting Tools | AutoReplace Mode. Since I used the provided demo
librairy, I think that this is a bug.

If you two would please send me private eMail your program .ini
files I would be happy to compare with mine to see if there is
some setting causing the problem for you. I tested both my own
AutoReplace and Eric's and have no problems with it doing the way
you both did. In fact, my AutoReplace turns on when I start
NoteTab via OnOpen and ^!LoadLibrary. (I tested using your
methods though.)

Are you in ver. 4.6 or 4.6a?

Larry's ini file worked fine for me on the AutoReplace not

please try putting your old ini file back in to see if it stays

Jody,
Thanks for the suggestion. It worked. I located the NotePro.ini file, renamed
it, then opened NTP again. Now the autoreplace works just fine. I failed to
mention earlier that even the AutoCorrect clipbook that shipped with NTP was
doing the same thing. The new .INI file does the trick. Thanks.

Hi Kent,

You're welcome. Could you answer and/or do these for me please.
I am trying to collect info for Eric to see if it might help him
find the problem.

If you still have your old ini file, could you put that back in
at least temporarily to see if the problem is still not there
please?

Also, did you install over an old version of NoteTab using your
old ini file?

Did you install in a new folder and move the old ini over to the
new?

Hi Ted
I'm confused by your question. I have no fonts folder in Notetab, when I
click the font button in the tool bar a box comes up with a list of all the
fonts on my system.

If you are asking how to get your fonts to display using the
menubar under Document/Font/Change Font..., this may help from
Frequently Asked Questions in help or on the web at

NoteTab Pro: where have all my fonts gone?

Unlike NoteTab Std, NoteTab Pro cannot use variable-width fonts.
It therefore limits your choice of fonts to those that are fixed-
width. This design is imposed by the input control used in
NoteTab Pro. The benefits are better performance and a choice of
commands/configuration options that are not available in NoteTab
Std.
_____

You can use variable width fonts in Info boxes, the Find &

can change them for the Clipbook, and Quick List in Options.

Hi,
I am a newcomer to NoteTab and really enjoy it for editing HTML
files. However, when it comes to editing general text files, I still
prefer another Shareware text editor, TextPad, made by a group in England.

http://www.textpad.com/ (winner of the 1997 ZiffDavis Shareware award)

One reason why I like TextPad is that it has sophisticated 'Regular
Expression' replacement rules. NoteTab has Regular Expression searches,
but as the Help Files indicate, replacement is not yet supported.

The other reason why I use TextPad is that I can easily limit the scope
of a find-and-replace by first selecting a number of lines and then
clicking a radio button limiting the replacement only to the selected text.
(NoteTab offers only 'up', 'down', and 'all' scopes).

So, I'm wondering:
- any idea when regular expression replacement will become available?
- is it possible to limit find-and-replace to selected text?

Thanks,
John van Heteren

Welcome John! For general text editing, I think NoteTab's also "Number One."
Maybe after using it more you'll come to the same conclusion. Have you
started using .OTL files yet?

Last February I evaluated TextPad and NoteTab
(http://stc.org/region5/asc/www/ltr0298.htm if you're interested). I gave
the nod to NoteTab even then, and it has evolved tremendously since (3.01 to
4.6a). I see TextPad is still at 3.2(5).

>- is it possible to limit find-and-replace to selected text?

Yes! From Help: "If the scope is limited to the current document, selected
text is more than 30 characters and at least twice as large as the search
criteria, then Find/Replace will only search within the selected text."

Cheers,
Ray Fitz

When I double-click on a work the whole word becomes selected. This is
good and very convenient, and makes for rapid drag and drop (or cut and
paste.)

But I've noticed one annoying detail. It also selects all the spaces
that follow the word. I usually have to take a moment to fix the
spacing after copying/moving the word. I can see how including one
space can be helpful when editing text written in human languages, but
it is annoying when working in computer programming languages. I would
like to have a way to turn OFF the inclusion of the extra spaces.

I have also noticed that the characters #$_~ are also considered as
part of the word. (E.g. double-clicking on "abc#def$ghi_jkl~mno "
would select everything between the quotes.) Would it be possible for
the user to specify ones own set of characters? What would be best for
me, is if I could specify what characters may occur 'at the beginning
of a word', 'anywhere in the word', and 'at the end'.

Hi Ted,

No, you would not need to upload it at all. There are a number of
ways to do this, but here is one:

Open the text file with your poems or whatever and Select
Modify/Document to HTML/...

Build a clip with the fonts in html code that you think you would
use and wrap the text with it.

You can do it all from one template as well or do it all from one
clip. See Eric's sample template to see how that is done and refer
to Help.

After that just hit the View in Browser icon or at the end of a
clip if you choose to do it that way, launch it automatically.

Another method is to build clips with your poems in Info boxes.
Put a ;semi-colon in front of the header and the text will keep the
same format as what you have in the clip without having to add code
for the hard line breaks. Make the Header name a long title to
stretch the window wider. Once the clip is open you may select what
font you want to use by right clicking over anywhere in the window.

If you need to discuss the build of the clips please sign up for the
Clips List. TIA

Sorry about the double post on this thread by a different subject.
I was meaning to send it to myself for a help file.

I reported that as a bug, but like you can see where it could be
useful like that. I noticed that ^$GetWord$ only gets the word
FWIW. I prefer it to act the same way - just the word. Eric is
being very skeptical about adding more options due to more
bloat.

G'day to all,

Is there a simple way to switch focus between open documents in NoteTab?

I've tried the keyboard shortcut of Shift+Ctrl+G suggested in the help file
without success.

Thanks, Paul

Hi to all,
I'm new to this group and will most likely be lurking just to pick
a few neat tidbits from the more experienced users of NoteTab Pro, but
I do have one question...

In an earlier email, someone mentioned how they've used TextPad
Editor and liked it rather well. Before I started using NoteTab Pro,
I, too, used TextPad and loved it...then I got NoteTab Pro and
realized the great benefits--especially with making web pages.

I moderate an email writer's group and maintain a website for this
group. I send info like contests and markets available for writers. I
use NoteTab Pro for making a database of such things all saved on
floppy disk--I simply put in the floppy disk, open the necessary info,
copy and paste the information into an email and send it to the
writing group. NoteTab is excellent because I can format the margins
to the same as my email software--Netscape--so there is no broken
lines, perfect margins.

When I used TextPad it had this neat option that i have yet to find
with NoteTab--In Textpad, I opened a file, hit Send and that
particular file would show up in my email letter. Whatever margins I
had set up would stay the same--but when I do this with NoteTab, it
throws all the words in that file all together into the body of the
email. There are no paragraph breaks, nothing. I have to copy and
paste it into the body of the email instead. I was just wondering if I
can change this?

Thanks in advance!

Kim

Ctrl+Tab works in NoteTab and in most Windows programs to change document
windows within a program.

Hiya Paul,

>Is there a simple way to switch focus between open documents in NoteTab?
Sure thing! Do Ctrl+Tab to go forward or Shift+Ctrl+Tab to go backwards
among all open documents.

>I've tried the keyboard shortcut of Shift+Ctrl+G suggested in the help file

This applies when you're displaying two documents side-by-side (Document |
Second Window or Shift+Ctrl+W). It switches you between just those two docs.

Shift+Ctrl+G is also useful in flip flopping those two documents, which is
actually done with Shift+Ctrl+W again. But if you're in the right-side doc,
then Shift+Ctrl+W turns off Second Window. So you would do Shift+Ctrl+G to
switch to the left-side doc, then Shift+Ctrl+W will flip flop the two.

Cheers,
Ray

Thanks. It sure is simple and it sure does work.

In a reply to Jody after some assistance from him a few days back I was trying
to be smart and suggested that us Aussies weren't all that dumb. Jody agreed but
(with a smile) suggested I might be a blonde<g>.

Well I'm not blond, I am grey and I'm amazed I didn't know the Ctrl+Tab
shortcut, but then I suppose life is about learning and I've just done some.

Thanks, again, Paul.

Yes, you can have the eMail exactly the same as it is in the
file. Since you are on the Ntb-Clips list I will post over there
under a different subject name: Sending eMail via MAPI & mailto:

Hi Kim,

This was brought over from the Basic list since there is a clip
or two here. :) It is a very long post and covers a number of
different things to try for 3 different ways of sending eMail
from Eudora. If you reply, please, do not send the whole post
back to the list. I marked all the long lines and added some
comments. You will need to put your own paths and eMail program
keyboard commands in some of them.
