Hello,

I thought I'd ask the group for an opinion about whether I should do the following with my nslu2 or if I should use something new (a spare laptop? a FON? something OpenWRT, and if so, what hardware platform?).

I'd like a single, low power device to do all of the following:

+ Serve files.  Ideally faster than the 700ish Mb rate I get from the nslu2... but not absolutely required.

+ Route from one wifi network to another - my WAN is a wifi connection, I want a second local wifi to serve to low power devices that are local.

+ Display slideshows.  I have two 1600x1200 LCDs that aren't doing anything.  I'd like at least one of them showing slideshows, occasional simple web pages, and a web cam.

+ Read a webcam.  This is likely to be slightly remote - 30 feet or so.

+ Play music.  For a hat trick, I'd like the device to play music from the attached drive.

Independently, I think all of these things can be done with the NSLU2 (though the display may be limited to 1280x1024).  Doing them all together might tax the poor little overclocked processor and 32MB of RAM.

What do you think?  Is there a good solution for doing all these things?

... I'd eliminate the spare laptop idea. In my experience they are not designed for 24/7 operation, Poor cooling is a large part of the reason. With those WiFi...
