Better ARM support has been added to Linux 3.7. I see that there has been some
discussion about the IXP420:

http://linux-kernel.2935.n7.nabble.com/Re-PULL-REQ-IXP4xx-changes-for-Linux-3-7-\

Does anyone have more information about using the 3.7 kernel with the NSLU2?

I want to report a bug and hopefully it will get resolved shortly.The problem
was when I tried to install asterisk18 (1.8.19.1-1) package from Optware for my
ASUS RT-N16 router with DD-WRT firmware v.24 -sp2 (14929 mega build), it failed.
A message was displayed saying that the asterisk18 is conflicting with
asterisk14. The package itself is located in

Hi,

I have testing many firmware on RTN16 and found the more stable dd-wrt.v24-18024_NEWD-2_K2.6_mega.bin
more recent version fail to mount ext2/ext3.
The message you have is just because you have 1.4 or package from 1.4 installed.
If you need ready to use package with asterisk and Gui you can try my Cyber-wrt special build for RTN16
https://sourceforge.net/projects/hotelpbx/

Best regards,

This is not a bug. There are several asterisk packages:
  - asterisk12 - asterisk 1.2.x
  - asterisk14 - asterisk 1.4.x
  - asterisk16 - asterisk 1.6.x
  - asterisk18 - asterisk 1.8.x
  - asterisk10 - asterisk 10.x

Pick the one that you are familiar with it and install it. Do not
install two of them at the same time.
We should remove asterisk12, asterisk14 and asterisk16 as those are no
longer supported.

Hello,

I am new here. the last 4 weeks I searched several forums found by google, but
didn't find a final solution, so now I try to ask actively ....

But first something about me/my Equipment:
About 3 years ago got my first NSLU2 - meanwhile I have 3 of them, all running
under uNSLUng-6.10-beta.
First one in the basement, with 2 HDDs.
Second one below the roof, 1 HDD.
Third in my working room, with a 2-GB-Stick on Port 2 and a Samsung
ML-1520-Laser directly connected to USB1.

Now here I come to the problem:

I started with a freshly flashed NSLU2, connected the Stick to USB2, moved OS to
there, installed cups and customized it like described here:
http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/HowTo/AddPrinter

Cups is running and accessably via browser from my net, but:

At my NSLU2 just 3 of the green LEDs burn, the one for USB1 is off.

The box knows printer is there::

Nevertheless Cups-Page tells me:

I at first entered my Samsung ML 1520 in the /opt/etc/cups/cupsd.conf, but when

Post what is installed:
ipkg list_installed

And try to install again and post the output:
ipkg update
ipkg upgrade
ipkg install asterisk18

Thank you for the suggestions. When I checked what had been loaded on the
router, I was surprised to see asterisk14 was indeed in the list. It must be
automatically loaded as a default package for asterisk when I installed Optware.
Once removed it, I was able to install asterisk18 without any problems. Thanks
for the help.

Hi ALL!

I’m a happy user of Squeezebox Touch. What a luck that SqueezeCenter v7.3.3 is
available in optware repository!
However, with a time a problem occurred: very often Squeezebox Touch rendered a
message stating that Steam Server is outdated and should be updated. And the
only way to listen to the music library on my NAS was to restart SqueezeCenter.
This was a really annoying problem. That is why I decided to build the most
current slimserver version (aka Logitech Medias Server v7.7.2).
By default LMS v7.7.2 uses SQLite DB. But I would like to use MySQL just
because:
1) I like MySQL more than SQLite
2) MySQL has native utf-8 support and it is fast
3) Without ICU SQLite can have problems in searching for case sensitive
non-latin characters
4) With ICU SQLite becomes bigger and slower.

Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to resolve the following issue with
perl-dbd-mysql: ‘Slim::Schema::Storage::throw_exception (122) Error: DBI
Exception: DBD::mysql::st execute failed: Column 'contributor' cannot be null’.
Also it didn’t help:
-building with ‘mysql5’;
-downgrading ‘perl-dbd-mysql’ to v3.0002 (make file and patch can be found in
‘_downgrades’ dir; See attachment.)
I believe the problem is somewhere between DBI, DBIx::Class, DBD::mysql.

LMS v7.7.2 works fine for me with SQLite since all my media files are in utf-8
encoding. But I hope that some users with better experience can resolve the
issue with MySQL and other issues (see ‘KnownIssues.txt’ for more details),
adjust, optimize my make files, build LMS v7.7.2 as optware package and upload
it and the dependent packages for public use.

Thank you,
Sergey

P.S. Here is the instruction how to build, install and use LMS v7.7.2
(‘cs05q1armel’ platform as an example).
NOTE: To successfully build LMS v7.7.2 you will need ‘inotify.h’ for you
platform.

COMPILATION
===========
1. Copy the SVN tree as root:
         $ svn co http://svn.nslu2-linux.org/svnroot/optware/trunk optware
2. Build the toolchain:
         $ cd optware
         $ platform=cs05q1armel
         $ make ${platform}-target
         $ cd ${platform}
         $ make directories toolchain ipkg-utils
3. Unpack the attachment with LMS v7.2.2 make files:
         tar Jxvf LMS_7.7.2_optware_make_files.tar.xz
4. Build LMS 7.7.2
         for f in `cat myPackageList.txt` ; do make ${f}-ipk ; done

INSTALLATION:
============
NOTE: LMS v7.7.2 depends on some new and existing upgraded/downgraded optware
packages. That is why the installation is performed in several stages:
1)
         ipkg install giflib_4.1.6-1_arm.ipk libexif libjpeg libpng libdb52
ffmpeg perl-compress-zlib perl-digest-sha1 perl-encode-detect
perl-template-toolkit mysql
2)
         ipkg install libmediascan_0.1-1_arm.ipk
3) Install all the rest of perl-*.ipk packages
         for f in perl-*.ipk ; do ipkg install $f ; done
4) Comment optware packages feed URL:
         sed -i '1s/^/#/' /opt/etc/ipkg/*.conf
5) Remove incompatible package versions:
         ipkg -force-depends remove ffmpeg perl-dbi
6) Install some downgraded packages and LMS v7.7.2:
         ipkg install perl-dbi_1.616-1_arm.ipk ffmpeg_0.8.4-1_arm.ipk
logitechmediaserver_7.7.2-1_arm.ipk
7) Uncomment optware packages feed URL:
         sed -i '1s/#//' /opt/etc/ipkg/*.conf

GETTING STARTED:
===============
/opt/etc/init.d/S99logitechmediaserver start

If LMS v7.7.2 starts ok, remove ‘--diag --d_server --d_startup` from the config
file ‘/opt/etc/logitechmediaserver.conf’, edit it to suit you setup and restart
LMS v7.2.2

More debug options here:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Logitech_Media_Server_log_file

STARTING LMS v7.7.2 with MySQL DB

Hi all, I have a question about slugosBE 5.3 Beta and NSLU2. I installed the
firmware with upslug2 successfully. I configured the network with "turnup init"
then I installed the system to my external hard drive 400 gb with "turnup disk-i
/ dev/sda1" then I created a swapfile file. Everything fine until I try to use
opkg or ipkg, when I use the command "opkg update" and "ipkg update" NSLU2
automatically restarts.
I searched a lot on google but can not find solution. Someone could give me a
solution to solve this? thanks

Brian/eno,

I've done some experimenting lately w/ the packages from the ddwrt (mipsel)
feed. We know definitively that both CUPS and dbus are broken (segfault due to
the -pie/-fpie flag problem in our binutil). I have fixes for both, and can
send the patches to you. [the patches and fixed binaries have been tested
extensively ]

Are you still accepting fix-patches?

Are you still accepting new packages also? I have python-cups and shairport
.mk files I could send you as well.

thanks for your consideration,

Hello,

I personally gave up with slugOS a while back, because opkg and ipkg seem to
conflict a bit with each other and wasn't update very often.

I moved to Debian using this guide
http://www.cyrius.com/debian/nslu2/unpack.html
It was pretty simple to install even with the installer not working.

I am not a expert on the difference between slug and Debian and may have been
have doing something wrong in slugOS myself.

Hope this helps.

apt-get usbip

However it doesn't install the host.
From google it would seem that the they kernel modules are in the staging are of

Can anyone help me compile them for the slug?

Hello,

I would like to notice you that py2[56]-duplicity_0.6.14-1_arm.ipk

leads to temp error when duplicity is run).

I guess that the right dependency is gnupg1 pkg (version 1), then
duplicity would run correctly.

Could you fix it, please?

Subject: Can't run cgi files with nginx and php-fcgi

Hi All,

I hope someone can point me in the right direction with this problem. I have
installed and configured nginx, php, php-fcgi and spawn-fcgi on an unslung slug.
Initially I configured /opt/etc/nginx/nginx.conf as I show below to be able to
use nginx and php-fcgi to display php files:
================================
         server {
         listen  80;
         server_name  localhost;
         root /home/httpd/mrtg;
          location / {
             index  index.html index.htm;
         }

         #Pass all .php files onto a php-fpm/php-fcgi server.

         location ~ \.php$ {

         try_files $uri $uri/ =404;

         fastcgi_split_path_info ^(.+\.php)(/.+)$;
         include fastcgi_params;
         fastcgi_index index.php;
         fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME $document_root$fastcgi_script_name;
         #fastcgi_intercept_errors on;
         fastcgi_param  QUERY_STRING     $query_string;
         fastcgi_param  REQUEST_METHOD   $request_method;
         fastcgi_param  CONTENT_TYPE     $content_type;
         fastcgi_param  CONTENT_LENGTH   $content_length;
         #fastcgi_pass 127.0.0.1:1026;
         fastcgi_pass unix:/tmp/php-fcgi.sock;
         }
================================

To spawn fastcgi I have a script under /opt/etc/init.d/ to start php-fcgi and
bind it to a unix socket:

   FCGISOCKET="/tmp/php-fcgi.sock"

This has worked fine, but now I want to also be able to process
cgi-bin/routers2.cgi for graphing some mrtg data and I am not sure if I need to
install anything else and/or how to configure nginx. This is what I have tried
adding to nginx.conf, after some google searching and head scratching:
================================
         location ~ ^/cgi-bin/.*\.cgi$ {
         gzip off;
         fastcgi_pass unix:/tmp/php-fcgi.sock;
         #fastcgi_pass unix:/var/run/nginx/cgiwrap-dispatch.sock;
         fastcgi_index index.cgi;
         fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME $document_root$fastcgi_script_name;
         fastcgi_param QUERY_STRING     $query_string;
         fastcgi_param REQUEST_METHOD   $request_method;
         fastcgi_param CONTENT_TYPE     $content_type;
         fastcgi_param CONTENT_LENGTH   $content_length;
         #fastcgi_param GATEWAY_INTERFACE  CGI/1.1;
         #fastcgi_param SERVER_SOFTWARE    nginx;
         #fastcgi_param SCRIPT_NAME        $fastcgi_script_name;
         #fastcgi_param REQUEST_URI        $request_uri;
         #fastcgi_param DOCUMENT_URI       $document_uri;
         #fastcgi_param DOCUMENT_ROOT      $document_root;
         #fastcgi_param SERVER_PROTOCOL    $server_protocol;
         #fastcgi_param REMOTE_ADDR        $remote_addr;
         #fastcgi_param REMOTE_PORT        $remote_port;
         #fastcgi_param SERVER_ADDR        $server_addr;
         #fastcgi_param SERVER_PORT        $server_port;
         #fastcgi_param SERVER_NAME        $server_name;
         }
================================

However, instead of the browser showing the result of the *.cgi script, it just
loads up the content of the file. Any idea what I need to do to enable nginx to
process cgi files - *without* adding a separate web server to do this, but using
some fastcgi method instead?

The solution is to use:

   http://wiki.nginx.org/Fcgiwrap

or better and to do it properly:

   http://projects.unbit.it/uwsgi/

none of which are available in optware. So I used thttpd which can do cgi.

Hello everyone!

I got Ampache v.3.5.4 (a «rich», i.e., *heavy* MPD web client) running on my
unslung 6.10 slug and connected to a pair of Hi-Fi speakers through a cheap
Media-C usb soundcard (kinda slow but it works!).

I wonder if it's possible to install on top of it the media player Amarok? The
newest 2.7 release uses mysql5 (not included yet on ipkg's repo), but maybe and
older version (just like Ampache) that uses mysql will do the job?

Any hint or feedback about similar successful (or unsuccessful) attempts would
be very much appreciated...
Salut!

Getting Ampache (and possible Amarok) running on a Slug sounds like an achievement... I wasn't able to get a good streaming solution running on the Slug, due to the lack of a FPU (most transcoding solutions require it).

I tried using MPD's built-in streaming capability, but again, the transcoding requirements were a deal breaker.  As a result, I cobbled together a Perl-based solution that allows me to take playlists created in MPD and use them to feed MP3s to an Icecast server for streaming mp3s over HTTP.  The Perl scripts have allowed me to cobble a solution together using ices as the glue between MPD and Icecast.  This solution basically just dumps the MP3 to Icecast without any transcoding.

These links describe the solution in adequate detail:

Very curious to hear about your experiences with Ampache and Amarok.

Hello everyone!

I got Ampache v.3.5.4 (a «rich», i.e., *heavy* MPD web client) running on my unslung 6.10 slug and connected to a pair of Hi-Fi speakers through a cheap Media-C usb soundcard (kinda slow but it works!).

I wonder if it's possible to install on top of it the media player Amarok? The newest 2.7 release uses mysql5 (not included yet on ipkg's repo), but maybe and older version (just like Ampache) that uses mysql will do the job?

Any hint or feedback about similar successful (or unsuccessful) attempts would be very much appreciated...
Salut!

I had the thought that ampache even without transcoding is quite ressource hungry (i only used it for http streaming via webfrontend and android client) due to use of php and mysql.
So i sat down and developed a little tool in c++ that scans a directory for mp3 and flac (other formats could easily be added) using taglib and libmagick and stores the information in a sqlite database.
After the scanning i implemented a little webserver (using mongoose) through which access is possible (getAlbums, getAlbum with json and obviously streamTrack).
Till now i only worked one night at it, but its more than enough for me (i developed a little android frontend, too), as i only use it to stream a whole album to my tablet when i go to bed.
Maybe you wanna join development? In my imagination its quite a nice project (i did it to refresh my c++ skills)

greets
