The debug version was not supposed to save any files, just to show what
was happening with the regex after you said:

I added code to rename the document buffer if the file exists, and allow
you to open the existing file if you choose, and commented out the
debugs. It also should now save the file if it doesn't exist in the last
name initial subfolder.
