Actually it isn't a bug:

The variabele includes a space as in "1 ". If you use
^!Set %Qend%=^$StrPosMid(""";"^%x%";^$StrTrim(^%p%)$;False)$ it
works...

I'm off to bed...

I sure have been falling asleep lately. The space is coming from
the end of:

^!Set %p%=^$Calc(^%qstart%+1)$

It appears the original might have had another problem that I
could have very likely added or perhaps another line. I keep
the option turned on to trim blanks at the end of lines. So,
I just knew it couldn't be a space. <g> (Even though the error
message sure looked like it had one.)

I distinctly remember, but cannot trace, a recent clip for sorting a
list of first and last names by the last name, i.e. the second word on a line.
Does anyone remember this?

My NoteBlock will do that *if* there are only two names as in
first and last. If there is a middle name or initial it will not
do it. If there is always a middle name or initial it will do
it. In other words, it was made to sort delimited files by the
column picked. http://www.notetab.net/zip/noteblock.zip

Sorry about that. I did a bit of work on something else in it
last night and did not check the zip out.

Look for "Sort by Field..."

Eventually I'll redo the Library using arrays like Hugo did the
other day for something. They are functional way I have them
(I think ;), but probably twice the size they need to be.

Using "FIND" "Tidy" in the Help Menu gives:

NoteTab supports HTML Tidy -- a free utility that cleans HTML code and
fixes errors. Once it is installed, you can invoke it through the
"Tools|Tidy HTML Code" menu command. HTML Tidy accepts a variety of
switches to control the way it processes HTML tags. NoteTab will try to
determine the best switches based on the active document type and the HTML
Tag option settings. If you want more control over the settings, you can
create a configuration file for Tidy, which you should save in the NoteTab
folder with the name Tidy.cfg (see the HTML Tidy instructions for details).
You can learn more about HTML Tidy and download the latest version by
visiting the following Web page:

http://www.w3.org/People/Raggett/tidy/

The easiest setup is to copy the Tidy.exe program file to the NoteTab
folder, but you may place it anywhere else if you prefer.

Hi LaurieK,

Yes, your replies go to the whole group. If I just want to say
thanks, I *normally* do so in private eMail. Sometimes there are
a few people answering in a single thread (a number of posts
having the same Subject) and then I can normally sneak it all in
when replying to what looks like will be the last post. ;) I
sometimes use TIA, but end up sending a short thanks private
eMail anyway.

I don't mind people saying thanks to the list so much when it is
on top of the post, but to have to scroll down pages of text just
see "Thanks" can get annoying. Some people have to pay for extra
time on line or by the KB after a certain point in many
countries, so please do delete extra text that is not needed for
your reply to be understood.

Subject: Running a PHP script from NT
casullian_454@...

Lets assume I have Apache running on my computer and I have a PHP
file open in NoteTab. I want to run it in my default web browser via
a NT clip.

If I click on View In Browser in the Tools menu, I get this URL
displayed in my web browser, showing the program code and the script
doesn't run.

C:\perl\htdocs\test.php

What I need is a clip that will replace path C:\perl\htdocs\ to
http://127.0.0.1/

The URL I need displayed in browser to run the script is
http://127.0.0.1/test.php

How do I do this in a NT clip?
====================================

To start Apache I use this clip

H="Start Apache"
^!Shell C:\perl\bin\Apache.exe -f "C:/perl/conf/httpd.conf"

Is there a way that NT can check to see if Apache is running before I
try to open a PHP script? If Apache isn't running, it would auto
start it before it runs the script in my web browser.

Thanks Mark

Yet another 'silly question' but I have recently noticed "PHP" on a LOT of
URLS, mention of PHP here and there but what is PHP? (in a nutshell....
just a brief explanation please). It must be rather new since it doesn't
seem to be on any of the 'resource' lists for acronyms or computer slang or
those types of references.

PHP is a server side programming or scripting language that is "embedded"
in the html.

http://www.techweb.com/encyclopedia/defineterm?term=php&x=19&y=17
www.php.net <----full cure

.php, .php3, .php4 are extensions that are commonly used to tell the server
which pages should be parsed for PHP. Same as with .shtml for SSI. The
server could just as well be configured to parse all html files (which
would use more resources), all files within a certain directory or to use a
custom extension.

^!Set %fil%=^$GetFileName("^**")$
^!Set %fil%=http://127.0.0.1/^%fil%
^!URL ^%fil%
;^!Info ^%fil%

^!IfAppOpen AppTitle skip
^!Shell C:\perl\bin\Apache.exe -f "C:/perl/conf/httpd.conf"
^!FocusApp AppTitle

U perhaps not need the focusapp line. those bottom lines probably need
instead be the top lines so that they happen prior to the %fil% (filename)
stuff. Ntab (I think) needs be in focus when the %fil% (filename) stuff in
the clip begins

AppTitle must be a consistent text in the titlebar, either at the left or
at the right end of the titlebar's string. * is like a wildcard. example:

*explorer

abiove covers internet explorer also covers microsoft internet explorer

microsoft*

above c0vers microsoft technical website also covers microsoft internet
explorer

Hi Laurie,

I first started with PHP3 in 1998. There were 2 revs prior to then.
There is now in common use PHP4. PHP5 is generally referred to as
Zend, which includes an automatic C compiler. PHP is fast.

PHP is another amazing app from europe. Like NoteTab, Xara, XnView,
IrfanView, et.al, the european developers produce lean, mean, and
powerful software apps especially when compared to USA bloatware.
This is especially true when involving the internet or www, where, as
Jody has mentioned several times, users pay dearly for pipe, storage,
and access time. PHP is fast.

PHP can be embedded directly within HTML, but is generally not. It is
commonly used as a *pre-processor* in a similar fashion as the old
pearl-cgi method. PHP is much faster in many cases, and supports
Sessions and Library Classes.

The emerging powerplay is Apache-PHP-MySQL to deliver dynamic content
to the www. I have myself built (in one case, and using NoteTabPro,
btw...) 12 PHP documents that deliver over 40,000 unique webpages
from our server-side database. Average filesize: 16k. Did I mention
that PHP is fast...?

So this is server side, I assume like *.asp it means that if I do not have a
server to work from I cannot test or work with this? I do my
dabbling/learning from home on my local PC, not much chance of having server
extensions here :(

I'm correct in assuming PHP would be like working with anything else that
requires a server with extensions, correct?

(I hope I'm not too far outta my league here)
(Do my questions on this belong in another group?) Well YOU opened this can
of my worms! :) :) <these are things I see and have no one to ask, now
you mention them, who better to ask>

Also I LOVE NTP! I just found a NEW (to me) feature that just makes my
life a living HEAVEN. The click of a button does something that I spent
all of my free time on yesterday and when I was done, deleted the 'old'
files which also, for some reason deleted all of the "new" files too so I
had NOTHING. NTP says, here, click this button and make all those nasty
txt files into html files so you can just plop them into your website and
not have to reformat all the line returns 'n such.

FOOKES SOFTWARE and all Involved... I LOVE YOUUUUUUUU!!!
(Another newsgroup, I know... talking to the corner pouting.. bad girl)
I'm SO EXCITED! :)
<smile, although we are techies, we can still have fun> :)

PS: Thanks for all the links and info on PHP, now I have MORE research to
do!!

Please email me off line. I would like to ask you a few questions
about PHP-MySQL if you have the time.

Alan,

Clip works fine except I have a really fast computer and the script
gets ran before Apache gets fully started. Thus I get an error. If I
hit refresh it then runs fine. How does one do a time delay? About a
second should do it.

LaurieK,

Apache server is really easy to set up on your local machine. You can
then install Perl, MySQL and PHP. This would allow you to have all
kinds of fun on your local machine.

The book PHP - Fast & Easy Web Development comes with a CD that
includes Apache, PHP and MySQL. Also has instructions for installing
all either on Linux or Windows OS. Really slick stuff. I tried
learning Perl and got really frustrated. PHP and MySQL is much easier
and as theFrank said - VERY FAST.

Check out the book here. It is a reall good beginners book on PHP.

Enjoy

I think I answered my own question. Is ShellWait what I want to use?
It appears to work. I'll do more testing later.

^!ShellWait CommandLine (added in v4.82)
Similar to the ^!Shell command, but waits until the launched program
is terminated before moving to the next Clip instruction. Unlike the
^!Wait command, you can continue editing files in NoteTab while the
application is running. Example:
^!ShellWait WordPad c:\autoexec.bat

^!IfAppOpen AppTitle skip_2
^!Shell C:\perl\bin\Apache.exe -f "C:/perl/conf/httpd.conf"
^!delay 3

Change skip to skip_2 so it will now skip your execution line AND the delay
line.

For increments of delay in Ntab menu

help > help topics > click the find tab

type in delay (your find criteria)
---------

ShellWait is more designed to accomplish: 1. get one app launched; 2. the "wait"
in shellwait means wait until the first app launches, does its task
*AND* closes (shuts down); 3. After all of those events ocur then launchs a
second, different app.

Delay would probably be more convenient (and appropriate) for you since you do
not want Apache to close down before you open the (2nd) app of your web browser.
Also, ^!url command handles your web browser ok (most likely)

Ntab's SampleCode library, its Batch clip demos.

Alan.
