Hi,

I just remembered this online tool. I've heard good things about it so
maybe someone can find use for it. Nice site anyway.

He's also releasing the php source code for this elsewhere on the site (nice
tip: thanks) and there's another word to html cleaner, which is a word macro
and supposedly translates to css:

http://www.geocities.com/w2css/#about

"The new version now includes translation of Word tables, creation of
character level styles, creation of hyperlinked Tables of Contents from Word
’s TOC fields, and handling embedded and linked objects. The program is
shareware, but is not time-limited. Instead you get use of a limited feature
set until you register."

downloaded it, but haven't tried it yet (like so much else!)

Thanks, I tried it and it works just fine. It takes out all of the Word 2000
stuff.

Please remember that I'm a newbie here, but how would I make use of his php
source code. The conversion only runs from his web site. There is no way to
contact him to buy it, and I tried to save it as a stand-alone web page on
my hard drive. It does not work off-line.

The page itself doesnt do anything, its the PHP script on his server doing
the work. You don't have to pay for it, but it was written as an online
tool, the PHP code will only work if you are running a server (or maybe some
kind of php interpreter).

Just make a bookmark and use the website :)

Hi Jody,

Save to HTM and use tidy with NoteTab, or the software called HTMLKit.

Thinking I might upgrade to NTB 4.86c, I went through all the tabs and menu
items and recorded what I have now. I only changed 1 thing--took off the splash
page. I checked out NTB site to see what was new. The 3 sites for downloading
did not specify where they were, so I clicked on the first one hopefully looking
for its location. Up came the download dialogue box, and not being ready for
that, I cancelled.

Don't know what happened, but now my ntb files open fine (sans splash page), all
the files I'm working on are right in my face and I can click from one to the
other. However, clicking on the browser button to any of them brings up an
"ERROR: File "C:|Program FIles\Note Tab Pro\" not found.

Well, the program is nicely right there. I just can't open it. There's an IE
"repair" something that I used sometime ago, and I don't remember where I
activated it. Hope you can and offer suggestions to get my files open again.
Many thanks.........................MM

If you use IE and have the statusbar available, you can see the full
URL of the link appear in the statusbar (bottomleft of your screen).

I doubt whether the halted download has to do with it. You didn't
really save it, right? And IF you would have saved it to your disk,
it still wouldn't be the program itself. You first have to unwrap the
file that you download, so that the existence of un upgradeable
program can be checked. But looking at your path, I would suggest to
strip the space between Note and Tab and correct the | into \ (by
default it is installed to C:\Program Files\NoteTab Pro)

Hi Jody

Then try HTMLKit, a competing product that has tidy built in as a DLL. It worked
for me well in
all cleanup options that I used so far.

Jody, have you tried TidyGUI? Maybe it works better since it's a Windows

then tidy.exe can take it from there. ;) Thanks.

I'm at a loss here and need know how to determine if the problem resides in NTB
or IE.

I can open the NTB program, the file tabs are right in front of me, but clicking
on the browser button still brings up the ERROR: "C:\Program Files\NoteTab Pro\"
not found., and the files cannot be opened in the browser. The NTB program IS
there.

I am able to see web pages on the net, so the IE browser (IE 5.5) is
functioning. So, how do I check to see if the problem not an IE issue, but
something that needs to be fixed in settings somewhere in NTB?

I ran an IE "repair" and rebooted. I still cannot open the files from the
browser button in NTB.

The only way I can see a file is by opening it directly in IE, browsing to find
the file to open, and can read the code from View>Source. So, if I can read
it from here, why can't I see the file opened directly from the browser button
in NTB?

I trying to eliminate unwanted image files, and need to see images on the web
page as well as the code. Would appreciate some help here, please. Many thanks.

You could try putting C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Iexplore.exe (or
your equivalent) into the Main Browser box in the Internet section of
NoteTab's options panel.

Also, your error message -- "C:\Program Files\NoteTab Pro\" not found --
does not indicate a file, but a folder. Perhaps there lies your problem (but
I don't know how).

Hi MCMAIER,

The easiest way to eliminate NoteTab (your copy) of being the
problem is install a new copy to a different location and see
what happens. If that works, you might check Options under the
Internet tab in your current installation to see how you have the
main and other browsers configured. If you do not have IE in the
Main Browser filed, try doing so. you might try a new ini file
also for your current copy.

If you want to create a new ini file, close NoteTab and rename
NotePro.ini found in its main folder (NoteTab.ini for Std/Light).
Start up NoteTab and it will use its default settings actually
creating the ini file when you shut down NoteTab. Start up
NoteTab and it will use its default settings making a new INI
file on shutdown. If the new one does not help, you can close
NoteTab, delete the new, and rename the old back to what it was.

Perhaps you have a registry problem and need to reinstall IE if
you have not done so yet.

Also, see what happens with your other browsers if you have any
installed.

THANK YOU-THANK YOU-THANK YOU Martyn!!!! You were right on the money. I
opened IE.exe in the browser window in the NTB Internet tab as you
suggested. Viola! The pages opened once again. Now, how did this ever get
"undone", or, how was I ever able to use the Ntb browser button all these
years if this .exe was never put there? This is the second incidence I have
had where somehow, things got mysteriously "undone" in IE. I think there
is a ghost in my 'puter!
I appreciate your input so much--I can get back to my web pages-- you got me
"connected" again. Thanks for the help.

It may have never been done. When everything is functioning
properly the Windows' default browser should be used if the field
is left blank. When you added the path to IE in as your main
browser you forced NoteTab to use it instead. I seems like
something got hosed in your registry for IE, your default
browser, or some other place pertaining to it.

You can possibly fix it by having another browser take over as
your default browser. (In IE check the box at the bottom of the
programs tab to always check to see if IE is the current default
browser.) I would reboot after changing your default browser.
Start IE again and when the question is asked to make it the
default browser choose yes. That is all assuming your registry
is a bit hosed. Sometime reinstalling IE will fix if that is
the case.

You can pretty much rule out NoteTab if you install into new
location and have the same problem with no browser in the Main
Browser field under Internet.

Your reply gave me lots to check out. First, "In IE check the box at the bottom
of the
programs tab to always check to see if IE is the current default browser"... I
did, and it is.

"When everything is functioning properly the Windows' default browser should be
used if the field is left blank." Well, how about that! I didn't know that was
possible. Maybe I don't have a ghost in my 'puter after all.

"You can possibly fix it by having another browser take over as your default
browser." I thought that IE is my default browser. "I would reboot after
changing your default browser"... Whoa. Change it to what? I do not have any
other browsers downloaded at this time. Tried it with Opera and it was a
disaster. That burn hasn't worn off yet. Are you suggesting that IE should NOT
be the default browser?

"When you added the path to IE in as your main browser you forced NoteTab to use
it instead. " But, it had no other choice anyway, right? It's the only browser
it can go to!

"I would reboot after changing your default browser. Start IE again and when
the question is asked to make it the
default browser choose yes." Now, here I'm losing you. I "assumed" that IE did
this automatically. First, where precisely, is the default browser "checked"? I
don't find a special place in the menu items, unless you're talking about a
reinstallation of IE 5.5.

One strange thing I did find in IE>Tools>Internet Options> Programs and that is
"Adobe GoLive Application" is listed as the HTML Editor. I didn't insert that.
Strange, because I have never installed the GoLive program. "ImageReady" is a
part of Photoshop which I use constantly, and it optomizes images for the web,
but it's no "editor" for me. The only other choice in that drop down box is
Notepad.( No, thanks.) GoLive cannot be removed, unless I choose the "Reset Web
Settings" which asks if the original Internet Explorer defaults and homepage
should be restored. I don't want to do that, as I use Prodigy for homepage and
internet connections.

Nice idea about moving NTB to a different location to determine it's guilt or
innocence. I truly hope I won't have any more snap problems, but I'll keep that
in mind-----with IE, I never can tell.

PS. From users of IE 6, I'd love to know pros and cons in the upgrade. Thanks
Jody. I'm just glad I've got my text editor functioning
again........................mm

I can't avoid the temptation to jump in here.

Only NetCaptor Pro deserves to be the default browser. But that's just
my person opinion, based solely on NetCaptor's beneficial features,
rather than on any problems with Internet Explorer. In fact NetCaptor
still requires IE. It just replaces the user interface. When using
NetCaptor, it is still IE that is actually loading and displaying the
page contents. NetCaptor's best feature is how it facilitates the
handling of multiple browser windows, which would otherwise mean multiple
instances of IE.

But other than missing out on NetCaptor's features, there is no harm in
having IE be the default browser.

(See www.NetCaptor.com)

>PS. From users of IE 6, I'd love to know pros and cons in the upgrade.

I run Windows 2000 and use IE 6 with no problems. I upgraded to IE 6 at
the same time I upgraded NetCaptor to its then current version. Doing so
completely solved some stability problems I previously had.

Of course big solution to the stability problems my system used to have
was my upgrading the power supply... but that is a whole different story...
and I've already rambled to much off topic here...

Hi MCMAIER,

Since adding the path to NoteTab's main browser fixed NoteTab for
you, all the following is simply to help you understand what I
was trying to get at and other troubleshooting procedures. It
may be time for some of the others to start filtering. ;)

>"You can possibly fix it by having another browser take over as
>your default browser." I thought that IE is my default browser.

I was referring to a path problem being fixed in the registry.
If another browser is installed, you should be told that it is
not the default browser and would you like to make it so. If you
choose yes, it should overwrite the default browser in the
registry making a good path in it.

>"I would reboot after changing your default browser"... Whoa.
>Change it to what? I do not have any other browsers downloaded at
>this time. Tried it with Opera and it was a disaster. That burn
>hasn't worn off yet. Are you suggesting that IE should NOT be
>the default browser?

No, not at all on the IE being default, although some might argue
that point. :-) If you do not have another browser to do it with
to force the registry to be overwritten, then you will need to
find where the registry settings are or reinstall IE, assuming
that is the problem. (It would be best to sign up on the Off
Topic list though to start messing with the registry, especially
if it cannot be fixed in a couple more posts.

FWIW, al lot of people that write HTML have at least the big 3
browsers installed to make sure their pages look good in all of
them. HTML code, browsers and bugs change too much to depend on
just one browser, unless you are depending on visitors report
display problems (which is rare for them to do so) or mailing
lists like this. (That is why you see a number of posts going
through that say something like,"This works great in IE, but not
NS or Opera." That is usually due to using code that is not
supported by the others, code used incorrectly, or a bug in the
code or browsers.)

>"When you added the path to IE in as your main browser you forced
>NoteTab to use it instead. " But, it had no other choice anyway,
>right? It's the only browser it can go to!

Correct. I either assumed you have other browsers install since
I have about six or so, ;) or you missed a part if I said, "If
you have another browser installed," ...)

>I "assumed" that IE did this automatically. First, where
>precisely, is the default browser "checked"?

It does make the check, but if it sees that it is the default
browser, it will not tell you every time that it is already. You
will only be told if it is not the default browser. The setting
is in the registry. It is different for different Windows OS, so
I cannot tell you where to check and do not know all the places.
I've played with it before to make it work in Win95/98SE, but
have not tried in XP Pro although I think I just saw where it is
done. ;) If you feel brave you might open RegEdit.exe and do an
Edit | Find, then search for browser or and/or default. If you
do not make any changes,it is safe to do. If you do change
something having to do with a browser default, *most likely* all
you could mess up is the IE browser settings, and at the very
worst have to reinstall Windows depending on what version of
Windows you have. <g> (I suppose that most people would not
recommend that you mess with the registry, but for me, on *my
own* machine, how else am I going to learn it if I don't get
burnt a few times a month since I seldom reference Help files.
There is not fun when you are use to living on the edge to get
those adrenaline bursts when a Help file tells you how to do it.

The Abode thing could be a part of the PhotoShop install. I do
not know since I do not have it. If you try to reset the default
settings, that may fix your problem. You would then only need to
change your preferences back to what you had them as. Other
software that made changes may pop up a message saying something
about no longer being the default or a cannot be found message.
At that point you could reinstall the software. If the problem
arises with NoteTab again after reinstalling the software, then
you know where it is coming from.

Happy HTML'n!

Your explanation was much clearer. Your're right about having multiple browsers
and when I get the brave urge once again, I will try downloading Opera and
Netscape browsers once again. I know pages may have different appearances on
each and pages should be checked in more than one. BTW, I did check RegEdit and
looked for IE browser but probably gave an improper find ID 'cause nothing came
up. I'll keep looking tho--haven't been there-done that--so it was cool.

I agree the GoLIve App as html editor was probably due to the Photoshop install.
That program and NTB are inseparable for me, making my pages come alive. I hate
messin' that up in any way.

I've learned a bit more about NTB and IE too, and appreciate the time taken and
directions you offered. Thanks much to you and all who offered help. My fingers
are crossed IE won't bite again for a long time......................mm

The biggest issue with IE6, as far as I'm concerned, is its lack of support
Java and Netscape-style plugins like Quicktime. I mean, that's just nasty
on Microsoft's part. They couldn't kill Java outright, so they're just trying
to make it go away by denying its existence. Breaking literally millions
of Web pages in one fell swoop does *not* benefit consumers in any
way at all. You can download and install your own Java distro (though
Netscape-style plugins remain unsupported), but all reports indicate
that IE6 simply does not like Java. To me, this is reason enough to
stop at IE5.5. I will not install IE6.

Scott

The actual 'default browser' location is (I think) really a combination of a
couple of different registry keys.

I've found the program SetBrowser ( http://www.pc-tools.net/ ) useful for
forcing the default browser to any one of the big three (or others if
desired). You might want to give it a try.

Hello, I'm a newcomer, a Newbie as they say,

I'm unable to see a .jpg file when I convert a .otl file to a .html.

Example: I have a .otl file.

Here is a line taken directly from my .otl file
<img src=
"file:///C:/documents%20andsettings/all%20users/desktop/awebsites/main/main_
files/bridge.jpg" align = "left" width="156" height="200" border="0"
alt="Golden Gate Bridge">

When working in .otl mode, if I click on the above image link, I see the
Golden Gate Bridge image just as I would expect to.

But when I click on Modify>Document to Html ... and then try to view the
.html in my IE browser, I don't see the Golden Gate Bridge.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks,

Jim C. Gajniak

Here is the exact line taken from my .html file after I
have clicked on Modify>Document to Html

<p><img
src="file:///documents%20and%20settings/all%20users/desktop/awebsites/main/m
ain_files/bridge.jpg" width="156" height="200" border="0" alt="Golden Gate
Bridge"></p>

As you can see, < and > seem to be taking the place of "<" and
">"

Thanks for any helpful suggestions,

Jim C. Gajniak

You probably just need to do a saveas and save the file as a .HTML file
then do an F8.

Jim

Newbie and oldpro at the same time? I say. ;)

When you do the "Document to html" try the "No character conversion"
option. That should do the trick. With character conversion on "<" and ">"
get converted to their corresponding HTML entities (< and >). Of
course, you also wait with inserting the HTML image tags until after you
have converted the Outline to HTML.

Hope it works now!

Sorry Jim, a typo gave this another meaning than intended.

What I wrote:

What I meant:
Of course, you COULD also wait with inserting the HTML image tags until
after you
have converted the Outline to HTML.

You don't HAVE to. Really.
