Good suggestion for the next release. This could be indicated by coloring
the line numbers too.

How about having NTP show changed lines of code (prior to a save, of course)
in a different color?

Someone mentioned that the syntax coloring will be customizable in the next
release, I imagine it will work for pretty much any language.

Does anyone know if there a color syntax mode for Macromedia Flash's Action

pardon my French, but do you know if other languages could be color coded
too? I just happen to write a lot of Flash Actionscript in NoteTab Pro and I
would like to know if there is a way to have this syntax highligted.

Never mind my last (same) question. And it would be great to have some
syntax coloring customazation in the next release! Before NoteTab Pro I
used a text editor that started with the name "Ultra.." or something ;) One
thing I very much appreciated where the predefined, downloadable syntaxes
for different languages. Is this the way NoteTab Pro could have in the
forthcoming releases? That would be even greater..

LOL There is a something Edit that has syntax highlighting (SH).
Eric and I spoke with the author (Ian Mead) and his wife in a few
different conversations at SIC 1999 (I think it was). They were
very nice and I remember Eric and Ian commenting on how there was
room in the market for both of them. I think I still have a .mpg
file of Eric receiving his award that year, but I'd need to ask
Eric if it would be OK for me to put it on the web at my site.

>One thing I very much appreciated where the predefined,

First, the next release will be v4.86d (actually a possible beta
4 before that... <g>) Please get on the ntb-NextRelease list if
you would like to use and test b3. Please see my signature line
to subscribe to it. TIA

<http://www.notetab.com/beta.htm>http://www.notetab<http://www.notetab.com/beta.\
htm>.com/beta.htm

SH will be coming in v5 of NoteTab. It will have many predefined
sets of SH for different programming and script writing. There
will most likely be a SH repository similar to the Clipbook
Repository at: http://www.notetab.com/libraries.htm. You will be
able to customize the ones already packaged with the program and
my guess is one could build his own SH scheme if it does not
exist. You should first see it working in an upcoming program
for developers. The same code will be used in v5 of NoteTab. So,
although Eric may not be working on v5 directly, he is working on
it... ;)

Happy Test'n,
Jody Adair

Could someone tell me what I am doing wrong here?

Below a mail to the next-releaselist about the +/- sign not being
rendered in IE and in the chm-files. Am I the only one with this
problem?

Jody, Eric,

Very weird... There must be something wrong with my (browser?-)setup.
I'm using IE 5.5 SP2 on W98 SE. I just cannot get the plus and minus
signs +/- on my screen.

If I open clipcode.chm (any version) | Clip Language - Select, Copy,
and Insert Text and copy the text on ^!Jump I get this...

----------
^!Jump nnn
or
^!Jump nnn
or
^!Jump [LINE_START|LINE_END][SELECT_START|SELECT_END]
[TEXT_START|TEXT_END]
Moves cursor to the indicated position. (Etc.)
----------

Since you apparently can see the +/- string, I did a view source of
that page (right click on the page itself) to check. Actually the
string is in the html-itself. When I load that page in IE 5.5 I get
the same result as in my chm-file (no +/-); in Mozilla it is rendered
correctly. I do not know what is happening...

hi Lance,

I'm not the sharpest pencil in the drawer when it comes to JavaScript, but no
one else has taken a stab at your problem yet, so I'll try..

I do not understand what you're trying to do here other than to assign an image
to a variable. Below is a snippet of code I've used in the Head section to
preload a couple Gif bullets that I use with mouseovers.

<script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript">
<!-- ;
// Preloader
     ledoff = new Image(15,15);
     ledoff.src = "bullet0.gif";
     ledgrn = new Image(15,15);
     ledgrn.src = "bulletg.gif";
// end hide -->
</script>

Then in the Body section, I'll put the default bullet image where I want using
code similar to the below:

<img src="bullet0.gif" width="15" height="15" name="item0" alt="">

And call for the image to change with a link similar to the one below.

<a href="link.htm" onmouseover="item0.src=ledgrn.src"
onmouseout="item0.src=ledoff.src">Click Me</a>

Sorry if this isn't any help, it's the closest thing to an answer to your
problem I could come up with.

Is there any way to horizontally center a <div> using CSS
positioning? I would like to center a large division in the middle of
the browser window so that it is always centered, even if a visitor's
window is very large. Then, within that large division, I want to use
CSS positioning to place other divisions with images, text, etc.

This is easy when everything is referenced to the upper left-hand
corner of the window. However, even using JavaScript, I can not
figure a way to center.

Thanks!

A short answer. One way to accomplish this is to set the leftmargin and
rightmargin to a certain percentage...

div{
   margin-left: 10%;
   margin-right: 10%;
   border: 1px solid black;
}

Positioning the other objects within the central div may be tricky....

          There are a bunch of attributes that deal with alignment at the
HTML level. Go to the <div> tag in the Compendium and look for align=. Then
follow the links to the working examples and you'll see it working. Resize
the popup and you'll see the constant centering effect.

          Next, go to the CSS --> Properties listing of the Compendium down
to the text-align property. Again, scroll down and you'll see "text-align:
center" and you'll see a working example there. Resize the popup as
necessary to see the effect.

          That takes care of the horizontal centering but if you're talking
about centering from the top of the window to the bottom, you've got a big
headache with that one. If you figure out vertical centering, let me know.
I could sure use it.

          I hope this helps.

Thanks for the great responses!

After much searching, I figured out an unsophisticated solution. You
can see the code here: <a href="http://websites-
graphics.biz/centered.htm">http://websites-
graphics.biz/centered.htm</a>.

This particular solution is very simple, and it's not dynamic. If a
visitor were to resize their browser window, the page would have to
be re-loaded in order to re-center the division.

The same approach could be used to vertically center a division. Use
the JavaScript property "innerHeight" and the JScript
property "document.body.clientHeight."

I only know that this works with IE5.5 and NS6.2.

Best wishes,

Mike Wilkinson

Hi Ron,

Thanks for the link to the Compendium. I added it to my Favorites
right away!

Regarding the HTML tag <div align=
If you put another <div> within it and use absolute positioning, the
nested <div> position references to the upper left-hand corner of the
window, not the upper left-hand corner of the "parent" <div>, which
is what I want.

Regarding the CSS property text-align: center
This is mainly aimed at text and images. I have found that using it
to center whole divisions works in some browsers, not others.

If you check the link I provided, you will see a simplistic version
that uses JavaScript and does what I want. My original reply mangled
the link, so here it is again:

My goal was to center the blue square horizontally within the browser
window. Since this technique use CSS positioning, I expect it will
only work in IE5+ and NS6.

If you resize your browser window, then click on Refresh, hopefully
you will see that the blue square becomes centered. If not, I would
appreciate your feedback. It would be helpful to know what browser
and version you're using.

Oh, now I see, I have to hit refresh for it to work.

You can trigger it automatically on resize of course (so I assumed you had).
I was looking at it on MSIE 5.5, but not hitting refresh.

Replace your body tag with the following:
<BODY onResize="window.location.href = window.location.href;">

Mike, since you have an explicit width and use absolute positioning anyway
you can easily center the element by positioning it in the middle of the
screen and then give it a negative margin of half it's own width. No
scripting needed.

div
{ width: 700px; height: 200px; background-color: blue;
position: absolute; top: 100px; left: 50%; margin-left: -350px;
margin-right: auto }

NoteTab Glossary will work fine. When you have it focused click
on Modify | Document to HTML | No character conversion. View it

Ron,

Just do search and replace and check all documents.
That will work on all open documents.

Alternatively, you can do a disk search and replace without having them all
open ahead of time under search/search disk

Read Find & Replace Dialog Boxes in Help.

If the Find criteria is too big to come up when you use the
Replace dialog (and have Find word at cursor checked), you need
to copy the text first and paste it in. If the Replace with
criteria is similar to the Find with having just a few changes,
simply double click on the Replace with label and the Find what
text will be put in the Replace with field. Just make the
changes and go for it. If both fields are large and very
different so that you have to paste them in, just have your
criteria in a temp doc so that you can get to it. Paste the Find
what side in then copy/paste the Replace side.

Happy HTML'n!
Jody

          Yup, but the last time I sent something to a newsgroup (not this
one) I phrased the question so poorly I got no responses until I rephrased
the question. I was just hedging my bet on this one.

          Perfect. Thank you.
