...by the way, that page sure needs an overhaul. It was still listing
the "latest stable" version as 6.0 (I updated it to 6.2; 7.0 will have
to wait for it being, you know, actually available on the site), and has
other problems I don't have enough info to fix, such as claiming that
the first version with regexp was 5.4...

I'll agree with Dido on this one. Pasteboard is cool. I use it often
as well. I also use it as my calculator since it's already open.

One other annoyance as we gather those (in addition to the resetting of
search settings after a clip) is the inability to "expand" the search
box so that I can see my entire search string.

On the other hand I love being able to click anywhere blank in the
search dialog box and going to the top of the document.

What is the limit on Highlighted text that can be copied to the Replace
dialog?

If I highlight a large section it doesn't go. I have manually copy it
first then paste it in. THEN if I have another thing to replace with I
have to use a token because I can not copy to the clipboard with
Directory search open.

Dear Notetabber,

I'd love to have your opinion. Can you spare me a minute and reply to
this email?

Your answers to the following questions will help me develop the copy
for the new NoteTab website. They will also give me guidance for future
program enhancements.

1. What do you mostly use NoteTab for?
(HTML editing, copywriting, note taking, poetry, data processing, ...)
HTM, PHP & CSS editing
2. What is it you like most about NoteTab?
Good text processor, good tools to edit HTML Tags and CSS statements
3. Which NoteTab feature(s) do you use the most?
The clip books and Tidy
4. Which NoteTab feature would you miss the most if you had to use
another editor?
Probably the clip books
5. Which feature do you miss the most in NoteTab that competing editors
offer?
Don't use competing editors - settled on this one several years ago and
don't plan to change anytime soon. Sorry, I know this is not much help, but
it is factual.
6. What is the top benefit you get from using NoteTab?
Compact, standard compliant web pages. I use NoteTab principally as an
editor for web page development. Works well in writing PHP code, CSS and
HTML tags. The clip books help me remember all the things this old brain
gets foggy about so NoteTab and I get along really well.
Feel free to share your answers in this discussion group. You can also
send them to me directly at eric.fookes@...

Just about anything to do with unformatted text. My ideal is to do away
with word processors altogether, maybe except for the very last stage,
actually converting to some kind of formatted text.

I may be able to achieve that best under Unix/Linux with vi(m) and
LaTex, but I have never tried the combination. I do use vi(m) a lot
though. Besides, I prefer dedicated Windows applications when under Windows.

>
> 2. What is it you like most about NoteTab?

That NTB offers many, easy to access features for working with
unformatted text. I am not a programmer, nor an html coder nor anything
like that. I like that part of NTB too, but I do not really need it. For
me those 'techy' features are just (very handy) fun really.

>
> 3. Which NoteTab feature(s) do you use the most?

Pasteboard, Outline, working with files in multiple tabs simultaneously,
search (and replace), renaming + deleting files from inside NTB.

See 3, but other editors do have at least some of these features but not
all.

See also ad 1. Being able to work with Unicode.

It is one of the best ways I know of working with plain text files.

I guess I took the below as a given, but it was actually pretty unique
when you first started it. Tab driven programs have now become the norm.

I too use disk search often.

Eventually I'll wish I had listed 90% of the features others are listing
as well. I am enjoying this thread a lot.

I guess I wish it had better block features too. I mean they work with
the following caveats:
It is not what you see is what you get, so you have to work hard
sometimes to get the right columns and then I sometimes have to add
extra spaces to my last line so that I can get the block I want. It
always seems a bit mysterious. Also if I have tabs in content, then
block copy is really worthless.

I feature negatives only to get positives. This is such an awesome
program I hate to even say what I don't like.

Your feedback has been really helpful and I also appreciate the

We're in the final stages with the new web site and hope to release
NoteTab 7 by the 1st of July.

Sure, you at least value cleanliness, KISS, and standards, so even in my
CSS-less and imageless Netscape 4.8 it's fully functional. There are
some bugs though:

In HTML the reader, not you, decides about font size. This is what
happens, when you try to press it into a border of finite pixel size
regardless:

<http://berger-odenthal.de/upload/Clipboard03.png>

Without CSS all browsers leave a small margin between the window frame
and the leftmost letters. With CSS and a full reset you're responsible
for that yourself. This

<http://berger-odenthal.de/upload/Clipboard04.png>

is ugly and hard to read.
I suggest continuing this in the HTML list, where it isn't off topic.

N.B: I'm not sure if the list accepts attachments or not. As they're
only 18 kB and 7 kB I'll try attaching the two images.

Have any of you tried changing the default color value (128,0,0 or #800000) of
the new "Code in HTML" syntax color in the options? It lets me change it to
another color however NoteTab still displays all html page CSS and JavaScript
code in the original default color instead of the color I set it to. Rebooted
the computer and it still shows the default color.

On a Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit box.

Clicking the hyperlink button or Hyperlink in the HTML-CSS clipbook:

I'd call it a feature, but this is just what is so good about NT clips:
If you want something to work differently, just change it. The stuff
coming with the program are just samples, until you adpt stuff to your

Two additional hints:

1) Save that Clipbook under another name, e.g. by prepending "my" or
something like that. When updating NoteTab the standard libraries get
overwritten by new versions, so protect your own.

2) Subscribe to the "Clips" list too. We have one or five real artists

Hi Will,

Sorry my reply comes a bit late.

I had indeed removed all transitional attributes so they would adhere to
the latest standards in HTML coding. But I do agree that the Target
attribute is useful and has no reasonable non-transitional alternative.
So I'm putting it back in the next update.

I'm back again with the same need but a different situation.

I want to use an include within and include.

I would like to use a master menu as an include for each of my pages.
The master is here:
http://epicroadtrips.us/master_menu.php

I want to use the master include in this include:
<div id="navwrapper">
<div id="navigation">
<?php include("w1navigation.php"); ?>
</div>
</div>

This would be the file w1navigation.php with the "master_menu.php" include.
I am hoping for this result for each page menu:
http://epicroadtrips.us/2012/escape/
The above link uses a copy and paste to include the master menu.

~~~~~~~~w1navigation.php~~~~~~~~~
<h4>Mike Breiding's Epic Road Trips<br /> Spain: 10 Days in Segovia</h4>
<ul>
<li class="week">Week 1</li>
title="Day 1: My First Flight East - Pittsburgh, DC, Madrid,
Segovia">Day 1: My First Flight East - Pittsburgh, DC, Madrid,
<?php include("master_menu.php"); ?>
dad's web site ">This site is dedicated to my father:<br />
<strong style="font-size:105%">George H. Breiding</strong><br />
Read more...</a></p>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The question is the same as before.
How to direct each current page menu to the same master_menu.php file so
it is added to the current page menu.

I am not sure this is clear or not.

Thanks,
-Mike

I've never tried that, but if not supported, I would break the master include
into two parts, then call the first one,
then the 'sub' include, then the second part of the master include.

John

Hi John,
My main brain twister is how to point all the pages to one include file.
In other words - figuring out the path to use for each one.

If the include within an include is not supported I think I can work
with that. But the path question is my concern.

Thanks,
-Mike

Not sure if I've got it, but could you write is as an absolute path
beginning with a slash "/" to make it work from everywhere?

I will see what I can do with that.

the following is failsafe:

$_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] . '/path/to/your/include.php'
