Reminder:

next Thursday June 21st , 2001 at the IBM building on Madison and 57th
in Manhattan. The general meeting will start at 6:45pm and the main
presentation will start at 7pm and close at 8pm.
Topic:
Distributed Pluggable Services with OpenTalk
Speaker:
Charles A. Monteiro
Abstract:
This presentation will demonstrate a simple but flexible pluggable
services framework which leverages off VisualWorks distributed
computing framework OpenTalk. Said framework will allow for:
Registration of a service with a specified service interface
Binding of a service provider to a specified service with ensuring of
interface adherence by the service provider
capability of dynamic discovery and bind of services
capability of dynamically switching the service provider of a given
service
One of the demo examples will illustrate the notion of distributed MVC
i.e. exposing the model in a MVC triad as a distributed service which
can then be accessed by other V-C pairs on different nodes on the
network. This is accomplished without "hacking" the standard widget
setup in VW.
The presentation will also consist of the use of two networked
notebooks in order to make things more fun.
This meeting is open to the general public.
thanks
Charles
