The
New York Philharmonic seeks a part-time SQL Server database administrator to
work 24 hours per week during regular business hours. Compensation is $32
- $42 per hour. The Financial & HR Systems DBA is responsible for the
planning, maintenance and development of the Philharmonic's HR/Payroll, CARLOS,
ACT, Raiser's Edge and Financial Edge databases. The DBA is responsible for
ensuring that:
- data remains consistent across
the database;
- data is clearly defined;
- users access data concurrently,
in a form that suits their needs;
- there is provision for data
security and recovery control (all data is retrievable in an emergency).
Responsibilities:

Manage organizational data
definitions & process-flows to ensure consistency, security and accuracy of
Financial, personnel (including ACT Contact Management and Archival Orchestra
records) and fundraising data
·
Write database
documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the
data dictionary ('metadata')
·
Maintain
data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act
·
Controlling
access permissions and privileges
·
Ensuring
that storage, archiving, backup and recovery procedures are functioning
correctly
·
Database development:
o
planning
dataflows for a new or revised databases
o
mapping
out the 'conceptual design' for a planned database in outline
o
considering
both 'back end' organization of data and 'front end' accessibility for end
users
o
refining
the 'logical design' so that it can be translated into a specific data model
o
further
refining the 'physical design' to meet system storage requirements

Data
migration
·
Testing
new systems
·
Other duties as assigned by the Associate

Requirements:
- 3 years SQL 2000/2005 database
administration
- Experience with Open
Insight/Revelation software is a plus
- Strong analytical and problem
solving skills
- Self-motivated with the ability
to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities

Proven effectiveness and ease in working in
a collaborative environment with multiple stakeholders
·
Proven ability to be flexible and
work hard, both independently and in a team environment, in a high pressure
on-call environment with changing priorities
·
BA/BS, or equivalent experience, in
Computer Science or other technical discipline
