How about , we all become leaders. We can post to this
group if anybody knows anything that would be of interests
to us all?

Cheers,

Actually I just said I'm uncoordinated.

I don't think we really need a leader just for ordinary meetings. If
we need a leader it's probably to organise talks and such, which
would be best handled by somebody who has more experience with Java,
or if that's not possible, at least some organisational skills. I
volunteer to pester the leader into organising things. I guess I
could play at being the dumb co-host if one is necessary. I took a
few semesters of first-year programming lectures at university, so I
know how to pretend to be stupid.

Yes, it was! On your instruction I went and found him, but he had to put
the meeting off for a while as his car was broken into.

Speaking of the web page - does it have an RSS feed for the news items?

Speaking of which, if you spot things that need to be announced, well, I
don't see the need to require just one person - if you want to organise
it - post it here and on the web page - I could do with another
moderator to approve stuff... Don't think of me as some organizational
God...

I am keen on curry. As long there is substantial amount of meat in it.
If it is only a bowl with one or two cube of meat in it , then that would
not make me feel full. I eat tons of meat.

Sounds like me going and doing a seminar on Smalltalk - I've done 5 lines
of code :)

Lachlan (sp?) is now working in Albany with Peter Harison doing java stuff
over there, so thers a java contingent on that side of the world, which
depending on albany-locality, could car pool over to any organised JUG
event here, get numbers, save parking, and a good time ( er, sounds like
something scratched on a public loo wall there ).

Two posts from Angela makes her regular? Mind you - thats pretty much more
posts than ANY one has made here lately. Other than myself and Richard.

For what its worth - I could be tempted to do a small talk on Anthill and
automated build servers, maybe. I hate public speaking, but hey, I'll just
hide behind the laptop :)

Does it have to be anything "organised", I like the idea of the Java Meetup
crowd, you just turn up for coffee/beer or whatever and let the discussion
take its own direction, unless someone has a topic specifically in mind to
demo...

> How about getting around once a month for a beer in Ponsonby?

Sounds good, I'm in Mt Eden and work in Queen Street so Borders is handy
for me,

On a related topic - every 2nd thursday we have a curry night, a bunch of
coders and network admins, see http://thursdaynightcurry.com and
http://auckland.thursdaynightcurry.com - if anyone is keen for a curry and
java chat the more the merrier :)

This weeks curry is at Simla on Mt Eden Road.

Fridays I'm often out pool'ing at Parnel ballroom...

Wow, I post a few messages and suddenly I'm nominated as an
organiser? I'm flattered but I must warn you that my organisational
skills don't extend much further than refactoring code.

I am, as you say, enthusiastic, and I like to go to meetings of geeks
(even if they're meetings of Java geeks and I haven't written more
than 118 lines of Java in my life) so I can be counted on to suggest
times and places and nag other people into doing the actual
organising. Friday seems like a good idea. I work in Albany so
naturally I'll wield my authority as
person-who-sione-thinks-should-organise-things and suggest that for a
venue, but Ponsonby is probably more central.

Unless of course we follow the Original Java Users Group and meet in
Borders or Dymocks. Programming books *and* coffee, what could be
better? [Books, coffee and a wireless network, that's what.]

Angela,

Since , you are becoming regular in posting for this list, I am going to
propose your name
to Richard to take over of running our Auckland group's details of meetings,
seminars,
and so on. Richard would still be the grandmaster of directing the Auckland
group, but he can
work with you to get us moving forward.

You are the sort of person we need to get things in this list moving ,
active, or
organizing things. It sounds like, you are enthusiasts and passion about our
group.

Richard, I believe that a person like Angela, should be given such a role,
may be a full time
for organizing monthly meetings or seminars about Java technology and stuff
like that.

What do you think guys (Mark Derricut and every one) ?

I have my 100% vote?

How about getting around once a month for a beer in Ponsonby?
I live in Ponsonby and there are lots of little cafes or restaurants for a
Steinlager
after work on the last Friday of the month for all Java enthusiasts.

I am keen on this beer end of the month get together. Anyway, I get wasted
every
Friday and do Java during the week, so anyone who wants to join me every
Friday or
weekend for a Java blast weekend let me know.

Sorry, I am trying to make some fun for this group.

Cheers,
Sione.

Richard,

I talked to you about an Auckland Java group, at the last meeting at
Borland, and I mentioned to you , that I thought it was you who ran
this group and you said no. I think , the group is Lachlan's group.

We should make that group merge with the group at the Borland (your
Borland office).
