Hi All,
Just a FYI that I've disabled posting to the Yahoo groups version of the
list.

All posts should now be sent to odin-user@...

Cheers,

Paul.

It does. But there's one thing to remember: if you have exported a
document to PDF, exit OO before starting AcroRead to check the
conversion results. Starting AcroRead while OO is running seems to end
in kind of deadlock.

Yes.. budget constraints have kept me from ordering Innotek/Serenity OO for os2, yet, however I have been using OO for win32 1.1.0 using aros2.exe to install and run, and it has an "export as PDF function" . I have not tried 1.1.4 yet as what I installed this way when my "beta" InnoTek turned into a pumpkin has been working for me.

Logic  would say the GA version from Innotek/Serenity should do as well or better :-)

I can run the FULL version of Adobe Acrobat 5 under Odin/Innowin without too many problems, but the main reason I want to run it is for being able to download a webpage and have it converted into a PDF automatically, changing all necessary URLs into PDF bookmarks. I've found it to be great for organizing and saving HOW-TOs and such.
But this one function doesn't work and I have no clue why. It would be nice if someone from Adobe knew enough about OS/2 and Odin to offer some clues to possibly getting this working.

Hello All,

having been on the Cebit, I handed over the question to the ADOBE
people, if product activation for version 7.x is needed - and written
on a special sector of the HDD.

Now I got the answer from them:

* A. Heincke
* Adobe Systems GmbH
* Customer Information Center

* Deutschland +49 (0)180 230 43 16
* Österreich +43 (0)800 29 50 73

ONLY for the full version (to be sold) - NOT for the ADOBE Acrobat
Reader 7.x
Good for Acrobat Reader on Odin - bad for full version on Odin.
I hope, this information will help us a little bit.

Kind regards from Laatzen (Hannover), Germany,
the city of the CeBIT

Twonkey plugs to winamp to get the playlist etc. and then allows
UPNP devices like webradios to play mp3s etc.
So it is a full fledged streaming server with all what that implies.
If you want to debug that more closely use the debug version and
use tools like netstat and/or tcpdump to see if there are open sockets
and what data flows over them.

Ya, Twonky is trying to make a tcpip connection in
some strange manner. Possibly it would work easier
or better on an actual 'server'. When the documentation
mentioned WinAmp, I thought it would be a simple setup,
because I have WinAmp 5.08c running under ODIN 20050308
and I can already connect to www.shoutcast.com and play
any of the radio stations forever. But, it just wasn't
the case. I can't find anything wrong with my DSL linkup.
Since the testing is harmless, I will keep trying.
Goodluck.

J, an APL-like application free from jsoftware.com for several
platforms, installs and functions well enough to be useful, but there
are problems:

The main window which might be described as an enhanced command line
interface has an internal gray band on the left side that reduces the
useful window area.

It has a configuration menu where font, font size etc. can be set, but
only the default font, "Courier New" 12, is readable. It comes with
a Truetype font named ISIJ but selecting that font, or any other,
results in badly rendered or inappropriate substituted characters.

One dialog box opens full screen without borders or background.

It uses openGL, but any functions requiring openGL give an error.

This was my first attemp to use Odin, and I am really pleased that I
can now use J in OS/2. However, what can I do to remedy some of these
problems?

Thanks,
Ben Archer

YMMV. I have one box where it runs fine and another were it is slower
than dog slow. This is a known issue.

The real problem is that even if v5.1 runs with reasonable performance
there's no way to install any missing plugins even if you could find them.
I just got bit by a missing caret plugin. Made it very hard to see the
inserted words. :-(

Steven

Hi Jimmy,
I have almost given up on this as there is a problem getting the
TCP & UDP bindings sorted. I am out of my depth in computing
know how. The second error message you found has been repeated
here and was also posted on the Twonky usergroup (who are using
Linux or WinXP) but there was never a satisfactory answer. It
does seem that that might be the only problem to overcome. I
shall have to keep pestering friends who are Networking experts.
Meanwhile I have been trying a port of Edna with Python which was
reported in Computer Shopper for Linux users and for which OS/2
ports are available. The basic workings of streaming and
broadcasting an MP3 file or M3U playlist are working but I now
need to address the UPnP handshake with the remote playing
device. Again, Linux ports are available but I am well out of my
depth. I shall have to keep asking around.
Meanwhile many thanks for your help.
Regards,
Alastair.

I have doc's that require v6.0. Trying to open in v4.0 results in
"error opening this doc. Viewer cannot decrypt this doc". It
opens fine in v6.0 on a Win machine.

I haven't tried the above mentioned v5.1

Features have been added so you get a proforma warning. If the file
was created without utilizing the new features, it will display properly

Even with Innotek's Odinized version of Acrobat 5.1 I have encountered
documents that say I need an updated version, but as far as I was able
to tell they displayed OK anyway.

Then as for Acro(bat)Reader 7.0, not for Adobe Acrobat 7.0.

I have downloaded it and will test this in the next times.
Currently I have no documet found, that need mare as
Acro(bat)Read(er) 4.05.

This is odd.. I don't think that this is the VirtuaGirl
installer doing this. On my system the C: partition is
not accessible to OS2. My HOME partition for Warp4 is J:
When I installed this VGirl.EXE under 20050308 debug, it
installed directly to J:\Program Files\Vg giving me no
options to install anywhere else. The install was flawless
the only thing weird is that it takes a good minute for
the 'girls' to start their show. The VirtuaGirl icon is
placed in the systray and all of the controls function
accordingly when the systray icon menu is clicked on. The
function will 'disable' properly and if you click on
'exit' the program will cleanly terminate.

I have moved the WSA-LastError into the Tls (ThreadLocalStorrage).
After them this works it for me, and so I can say, that Winston.exe does
something, what in Odin resets the LastError. After them it's read the
to LastError wrapped WSALastError.

If it make no trubble with others, we can try to do the WSALastError
into the TEB after some times.
Martin, I can send You a test version of the wsock32.dll before the next
build.
