This message is being sent primarily to keep odp-rdf-announce alive as a
yahoo group. We have not changed the RDF file format, and currently
have no plans to do so.
There is a relatively new file, http://dmoz.org/rdf/tags.html, which
provides a listing of each tag that we use in each of the RDF files.
This is produced by reading the RDF files, and it highlights any tags that
it doesn't expect. By checking this file weekly, you can easily see any
tags that have changed.
I have added a narrow2 tag to the rdf files. It behaves exactly like the
narrow and narrow1 tags for syntax purposes. It represents a subcategory
that should be sorted above both the narrow and narrow1 subcategories
for purposes of display (exactly as narrow1 should be sorted above
narrow).

We are planning on discontinuing the non UTF-8 version of the RDF
files. We anticipate that this should inconvenience few of you, since
we believe that just about everyone is using the UTF-8 version, and
everyone has had 6 months to convert.
The July 10th version will be the last of the "Classic" RDF files
produced. If this creates a severe hardship for anyone, send me mail
at truel@..., and I will try to work something out for you.
Thanks
The lack of a proper character set in the ODP RDF has been a real
problem for many people. In an effort to improve the data we
distribute, I have modified the RDF generation tool to produce files in
the UTF-8 encoding of Unicode.
There is a sample file at http://dmoz.org/rdf/World.rdf.u8.gz
Everyone should download this file and start to modify their processes
to accept the UTF-8 format. Also check http://dmoz.org/rdf/Changes.htm
l for more information.
In the near future, I will be releasing the full complement of RDF
files in the UTF-8 format. The files will be provided in the existing
encoding for one month.
Any problems may be mailed to truel@...
