Re: [ohioms] compost mushroom spore print

I think perhaps the fruting you used was not fresh enough. The saffron reaction only works on freshly gathered carpophores. The fact you got an orange line tells me you would get better results on a freshly picked mushroom. Chanterells favor beech trees, however, They are often found just growing at random along a trail or just in the woods duff. Everyone, it seems, think they are very good. Frankly, I can't share  their enthusiasm, no accounting for taste. I much prefere the black ones. I never recommend you eat Lepiotas  until you have enough experience to Identify them properly. My favorite mushroom is Macrolepiota procera. to the inexperienced eye it favors an amanita in stature and structure. Beware!

I left the mushroom overnight and wow a beautiful white spore print. I also cut the bulb and it did not turn a bright or beautiful color. It kind-of turned light light orange on the edge. Nothing too exciting.

My true goal is to find chanterelles. Any hints on how-to or where-to find them?
