Havent heard of dolphin before... Is it a development platform?
The results come back as an xml reponse, check out there example reponse:
http://api.oodle.com/api/v2/listings?key=TEST®ion=chicago&category=vehicle/car
I'm not sure what your refering to when you say template...
I developed my application from scratch using ASP.Net/AJAX/SQL 2005
All my the categories, attributes, regions, cities and states are stored in my SQL database.
(I have over 43,000 cities in my database; it contains city, state, zipcode, lat and long)
Using what I have in my database I used that for the api request.
It really depends on what kind of UI you are going for, you can download their categories and regions XML documents and just use those to start.
