Hi FredZ,

I already was able to do that part after today's update which choked
down two bits. It's the next part that I can't get past... I have no
Twitter button to press. - Donovan

I'm getting further. After updating again, I got two new parts. That
allowed me to finally get access to user.twitter.prefs to enter my
vitals. Now, after restarting a few times, I still see no Twitter
button. It's supposed to appear in my Today's Outline header area next
to View or something? What else should I do to get that button?

I noticed too late that my reaction (that I mentioned above) was not delivered
to this
maillist. (My fault!).
Although the Twitter feature works on my Mac the way Dave described I send that
reaction
anyway because it could represent the experience of others attempting to install
the
Twitter feature.
Here is my earlier (i.e. 'the missing') reaction:
==== start ====
1. I managed to get the update (opml.root & dotOPML.root)
2. I quit and re-launched OPML editor
3. Via Preferences (Menu:Community > Preferences) I clicked the new
'Webservices: Twitter
option'
4. Result:
"[Macro error: Can't find a sub-table named "twitter".][Macro error: Can't find
a sub-table
named "twitter".][Macro error: Can't evaluate the expression because the name
"repeatedPassword" hasn't been defined.][Macro error: Can't find a sub-table
named
"twitter".]"

I just posted that I had the same problem as Donovan.

HOWEVER ... after reading Simon's reaction I tried to update several times. Each
time quit
& relaunch OPML Editor. First several times the message '0 new parts' but
suddenly (after
the third update run there were 2 new parts installed). After tha a
quit/relaunch et
voila!: ... the Twitter link in the Webservices>Preferences lead me to a page
where
usename & password+verification were asked.
It works fine now.

Hi,

I can't get this feature to work.

Help greatly appreciated.

What didn't generate an error flag:

Subscribing to a feed.

------------------------------------

What didn't work:

Do Scan now
Error Message: Can't update the root because "The server,
communityserverhome.opml.org returned error code 8: The subscriptions
service is not enabled on this server."

Adding feed to outline
Error Message: Can't evaluate the expression because the name ""
hasn't been defined.

What am I not doing?

Thanks

After reading today's Scripting News and the Twitter feature that's
been added to OPML Editor, I ran File:Update Root.. in OPML Editor.
Four parts were added. I then restarted OPML Editor.

Then, per the directions, I try to jump to user.twitter.prefs but
nothing happens.

Any suggestions? I'm running OPML Editor 10.1a8. Latest Mac OS X.
Thanks - Donovan

I've got a bunch more coming.

Still not sure how we're going to get past the problems with IE7, but
they're not in my way since I use the Mac version.

It was a simple fix, if you update flickrRivr.root, it should work now.

Stephen, dunno about your FlickrRiver prob, but on the videos, maybe blip.tv would be better. They don't have groups, but they have playlists with feeds. A different way of getting a cross-account feed. I have a screencast of how to build a directory of inclusions, but I'd want to re-do it before adding it to the collection. The file directories are all changed from when I made it (older version Windows when the user files were in My Documents)

http://support.opml.org/2007/04/13#a1634

Followed the docs here

http://support.opml.org/2006/01/01

I created a new folder to store the images and cut and paste my
Flickr Contacts RSS Feed and am left with the error in the screenshot.

"Can't call the script because the name 'CheckFeed' hasn't been
defined"

Any ideas anyone?

Josh, I don't understand all the particular terminology, but the
problem looked to me like dialogs that weren't correctly restoring
state after disappearing, so this seems consistent.

Please pass back my personal thanks to the people looking into this!!

It's very nice to get Microsoft help with our humble open source
project. I've passed a link onto the Frontierkernel list, directly
asking Andre to help, and I'm going to post a thank you on Scripting
News.

I think it's completely appropriate for others to give Microsoft some
link love for helping out the OPML Editor users.

Dave

I have lost my password for the Share Your OPML site and can't find a
Mail my Password link anywhere.

Does anyone know how I can log in to the Share Your OPML site again? Or
how I can reset or find my pasword?

Thanks,

Tom.

FYI, a quick status update tonight from the testers investigating --
may help Andre investigate:

"!threadstate is showing an active thread state on a thread not
associated with where the original CDoc is created. Each thread state
knows about the objects relying on it and so it stays alive. In this
case the threadstate for the CDoc associated with their dialog is gone.
There is a reference counting issue causing this that we can probably
find with iDNA easily. I'm going to run a trace and a TruScan run
tonight and look for a hit. I'll investigate more in the morning after
the run is done."

He's getting iDNA trace and as soon as I have so update from him I'll
let you know.

This message is about Human beings, Democracy, UNHCR, Refugees, The Iraqis,
Islam, Kurds, Human rights, Respect, Money, Donations, Angelina Jolie,
Pavarotti, Giorgio Armani, Donors, Peace, History, Campaigns and about you if
you care about these words.

Hi there,

I am SAM, an Iraqi refugee living in Lebanon at the moment; I have spent the
last 10 years of my life as a refugee registered with the UNHCR in Beirut. The
last 4 years, I have spent as an activist for peace and human rights (especially
refugees and asylum seekers) on the Internet; I'm also books author and ebooks
publisher. I have launched many campaigns to improve our situation as refugees
in Lebanon and hopefully bring more understanding to our problems worldwide. I
helped make many changes and improvements at the UNHCR office in Beirut; I used
the Internet as the field for my activities (you can read more about that in my
free ebook 'MY CAMPAIGNS'). All my ebooks are free and could be download from my
sites.

This is my newest campaign, it's about the illegal and humiliating actions of
the UNHCR, who using photos of refugees as banners and human-buttons to collect
money. This is an abuse of the dignity and humanity of the refugees and must
stop immediately and a clear public apology present by The United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees. My friends, I am talking about the pictures you can
see here:
http://www.gameroom.com/unhcrlebanon/human-buttons.htm

Where you can read the rest of this message as web page.

Also you can read my new campaign 'Urgent, we need smile' here:

For more info about UNHCR and life of refugees you can read my free ebooks. I
invite you as fellow humans and members of the world community to support my
campaign by reading my article on my site and see the human-buttons. The
campaign is to support and improve the UNHCR http://www.unhcr.org especially
after the last scandals in the UN and UNHCR, just for example:

The refugees allege that UNHCR staff is selling most of the food items they are
supposed to be supplied.
"They aren't supplying sufficient food to us because they sell most of the food
items," they allege: http://allafrica.com/stories/200503140214.html
Here is another example: Burmese Refugees Withdraw Protest Against UNHCR

"We make demonstration and fast because the UNHCR office in Cairo did nothing
for our problem..." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/4440730.stm

Together we will build better world.

Hi Deiter,

Glad you are trying out the OMPL Server.

Keep in mind, Dave Winer is a one man shop, and he can not do
everything. For the most part, as users, we have to think of
ourselves as working in the test lab. In the test lab, developers
will break stuff and change code and do things differently than
before. The OPML Community Server is also in a test environment as
well. Dave Winer states as much on his various websites. I don't have
the link to that information, but basically he states that there are
no guarantees for server uptime, and there are certainly no gurantees
for support. However, the OPML community is very helpful when they
can be of assistance.

You might get some clues to what server settings and URL's have
changed, by reading the most recent posts in the last two weeks in
this newsgroup, downloading the new OPML client and inspecting the
database ( .root ) files.

The motto here is be patient, keep loose, chill out, and don't have
any expectations, and maybe at some point, Dave Winer will update the
Community Server if he sees value in doing so. He has made no such
promise to do so.

HTH,
David Wilkinson

Dieter,

I can't help you much with this issue, what I can suggest is reading
the past weeks messages here in OPML Support regarding the new build
and the fact that Dave Winer has retired some of his old servers and
as such a new updating mechanism is in place for the latest version
of the OPML Editor and that would be why your current version is not
getting updates from the web side of things for dotOPML.Root etc.

Regards,

Stephen

Since i couldn īt find a server howto for opml (yes there are some
bites somewhere on the net, but they are outdated. Not even Mr. Winer
updates his lines on support.opml.org. This is a short howto in
setting up a OPML Community Server. Well it should be, but it isnīt
because my OPML server doesnīt work. I am not sure if anybody reads
this message, but i write it down and maybe somebody can help me:

-----------------------------
OS is Windows 2000 SP4
-----------------------------

1. I unzipped the opml.zip from
http://static2.podcatch.com/blogs/gems/support/OPML.zip
2. I downloaded the workplace installer from http://tinyurl.com/2ymjvp
and placed it in the OPML folder.
3. I started opml.exe
3a. OPML shows me the main environment window of Version 0.71 with a
picture of a guy holding a newspaper in his hands.
3b. A popup shows me this error message:

Canīt update the root because "The
server.communityserverhome.opml.org, returned error code 8: The
Subscriptions service is not enabled on this server .."

3c. I closed this window.
3d. A register with opml.org form displays.
3e. I closed this registration popup.
4. I opened the installer from file ->> open
4a. In the popuped window i clicked RUN.
5. I closed opml.
6. I created a opmlStartupCommands.txt with these contents:

    user.opmlserver.enabled = true;
    user.opmlServer.rpcName = "rpc.blogdns.net";
    user.opmlServer.hostname = "hosting.blogdns.org";
    user.opmlServer.blogsname = "blogs.blogdns.net";

and placed this file in the opml folder.
7. I started opml again.
7a. For a short moment the opml environment opens and shows me a white
screen with a bird, but after 1 sec or less it return to the Version
0.71 screen with the picture of a guy holding a newspaper in his hand.
7b. A popup shows me this error message:

Canīt update the root because "The
server.communityserverhome.opml.org, returned error code 8: The
Subscriptions service is not enabled on this server .."
7c. I closed this window.
8. A register with opml.org form displays.
8a. I closed this registration popup.
9. Under Community >> Change Community i changed the community from
rpc.opml.org to rpc.blogdns.net.
10. Under Community >> Register i registered a new user.
10a. A new popup displays: It worked! Congratulations bla bla bla ,,,
10b. I saved this content and clicked view which results in the
following error message:

Sorry! There was an error: Can't display the page because the
directory "" doesn't have a sub-folder named "blog".
The error was detected by OPML Editor version 0.71 in
mainResponder.respond. Webmaster: zinke@.... Time: Sat, 07 Apr
2007 15:58:14 GMT.

10c. ### But there is a folder under GuestDatabase/www/blog. There is
also a folder /GuestDatabase/www/hosting/Zinke/.
NO, NO there are various folders
/GuestDatabase/www/hosting/Zinke/blog/Zinke etc.
I looks like that the OPML upstream creates endless folders.
Starting the URL http://blogs.blogdns.net/Zinke/ in Firefox results in
the first post (It Worked! blabla) but without the header graphic.
The source code shows me this URL for the header image:
http://hosting.blogdns.org/images/defaultBanner.jpg
Calling this url from Firefox results in this error message:

Sorry! There was an error: There is no folder or object database named
"images.root" in the folder "D:\OPML\Guest Databases\www\".

The error was detected by OPML Editor version 0.71 in
mainResponder.respond. Webmaster: zinke@.... Time: Sat, 07 Apr
2007 16:05:18 GMT.

This is the output of the log file:

Well, i am not sure what all this mean. Could it be possible that i
missed some installation steps?
Could it be that the Community Server is not ready for use?

I donīt know. Who know?

Basically, the problem with IE7 is not at a level that I can fix, so
I've posted a follow-up report on the frontierkernel list.

http://tinyurl.com/2gd3zx

I guess now we find out if this is really a community process or not.

Help from Microsoft with this problem would be much appreciated, and
I'm pretty sure that the only person with enough know-how with the
kernel fo solve this problem, at this time, is Andre Radke.

I can also confirm that setting the background.html file to ReadOnly
has not stopped the crashing after registraton.

Windows XP / IE7

that's interesting to know.

I'm crashing on startup - fresh or with www replaced (from a working install pc  w/IE6).

This happens right AFTER the reg dialog.  Like it's trying to write something that it's not allowed to (despite 'unblocking' it)

On 4/4/07, Dave Winer <dave@...> wrote:

David, whether or not the dialog comes up has nothing to do with
cookies. Your username and password are stored in dotOpmlData.root. If
they're not there or empty, the dialog appears.

That's okay, sometimes I forget too. That's the great thing about code
you debugged 9 years ago. Dave

Doh! Got it. I knew that XML-RPC was used in the OPML Editor deep in
the recesses of my mind. I just somehow forgot about it. Thanks for
the clarification.

David, whether or not the dialog comes up has nothing to do with
cookies. Your username and password are stored in dotOpmlData.root. If
they're not there or empty, the dialog appears.

The security system of the web is totally out of the loop here. You're
authenticating with a server that I'm running, and it's all done via
XML-RPC messages, not through the browser.

Dave
