Has anyone in the group tried Orion's BT-70 binoculars? I know that a 70mm aperture is not going to capture a lot of light, but they should be okay for bright...
Hi Friends , I own a Celestron 102mm go to Refractor. I am planning to buy a catadioptric , Maksutov or SCT ; Orion 102 apex or C 90 or c130 & mount them on...
The C130 at 9.25 lbs. probably weighs too much for the SLT mount. I'd go with the Apex 102, presuming it comes with a Vixen dovetail plate on it. It's...
... Unless Orion changed it recently, the none of the Apex scope mounts are the standard Vixen/CG5 dovetail. Dovetail bar can be adapted to the tubes, though,...
... If the weight of the 127 OTA [with eyepiece] is about the same, or less, than the 102 OTA, it might work. I pulled up the manuals for the 102 at...
Hi I checked the weight. It is 9.5 Pounds for 127mm & 6 Pounds for SLT 102MM. Hence it is more appropriate if I go for 102 Apex though I loose out on aperture....
... Or, change your plan of attack. If you are willing to invest money in a 102 or 127 optical tube, why not just sell your SLT and upgrade to a Nexstar 6SE?...
Okay . But is Nextstar tube a Prtable as carry on plane ? Thanks- -- In orion-telescopes@yahoogroups.com, "pacnwfoto" <photec@...> ... money in ... to a ... ...
... Not many scopes [or anything for that matter] can be 'carried' on a plane anymore, but a Nexstar 5/6/8 could be loaded as luggage. As designed, the...
Hi folks, I recently bought a 12" Intelliscope and am enjoying it very much. I also purchased the "Deluxe" laser collimator and used it to collimate both the...
My 8" newt had worse than the crayford, the crayford was not an option when I got mine 2 and 3/4 years ago. I have upgraded to a feather touch and love it....
Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to start saving up for a Feathertouch. --Walt ... not an option when I got mine 2 and 3/4 years ago. I have upgraded to ...
Feathertouch was relatively inexpensive, now I'm saving for a Televue Ethos.I Saw through one on a 10" dob at Great Lakes Stargaze in Gladwin Michigan and it...
Cool. I read the review on the Ethos in this month's S&T; sounds like a very impressive eyepiece. Oughta be, for $620US. :>) I just bought a TMB 40mm...
Orion now has a 102ED refractor announced with retracting dew shield and a two speed rotating Cfrayford focuser. It looks very similar to the Astronomy...
Looke very nice. It's also in the catalog I received today. Which AT unit is comparable? I was just at their site and they only listed the 66 and 80mm models I...
Sander; I found the AT 102ED listed on the Astronomics web site. Here is a link to it. http://tinyurl.com/yuw62v Rich Wood ... AT ... the 66 ... shield ... ...

Mike; The market seems to disagree with you as today the majority of ED and APO refractors seem to be in the F6 to F7.5 range. The Orion/Synta 100mm ED at F9...
I am curious if anyone has purchased the new 6" scope from Orion that is optimized for imaging. Since I have a relatively light mount (SkyView Pro), it looks...
Per the web site it looks like not yet shipping as it is shown on backorder with expected availability 1 Nov. Unless they sold out on an earlier batch I doubt...
Howdy everyone, I just realized it has been 10 years since my first astrophoto, so i decided to add a few of my astronomy shots on my photoblog. As you can...
