I'm no MIDI expert.. but perhaps make sure you're using the Easy Mode under
Options-> MIDI IN Settings... ?? I know that makes it all a lot easier for
me...

I have a problem with some VST instruments.One of them being the Cheeze Machine, ita a free ware sinth i got off the the web a wile back. Its got some nice pad...

... Are you sure you're recording to the right midi channel? Are you using easy or advanced midi mode? Try checking the midi channel dropdown in the pianoroll...
