SIRTF CYCLE-1 CALL FOR PROPOSALS
This notice is to advise potential proposers for Space Infrared Telescope
Facility (SIRTF) observing time and/or archival research that the due date
for the SIRTF cycle 1 proposals is February 14, 2004. Proposals will be
accepted from the international scientific community.
SIRTF was successfully launched on August 25, 2003. It is currently
undergoing science verification tests, with normal science operations
expected to begin by early December 2003. Progress updates on the SIRTF
activities may be found at the SIRTF web site
(http://sirtf.caltech.edu/SSC/). The on-orbit performance of SIRTF is
generally consistent with the prelaunch expectations as currently described
on the web site. Any deviations of note will be discussed in an update to
the previously released Cycle 1 Call for Proposals and will be published
online by the SIRTF Science Center on December 19, 2003, in the 'Proposal
Kit' section of the SIRTF Science Center public Web site
(http://sirtf.caltech.edu/SSC/propkit/). The Call for Proposals solicits
participation to conduct Cycle-1 SIRTF research in two categories: (1)
General Observer Program and (2) Archival Research Program. All details
may be found in the Proposal Kit. The proposal length, format, and similar
technical details are unchanged from what has been previously announced.
Queries about Cycle-1 or any aspect of SIRTF should be sent electronically
to the HelpDesk at sirtf@.... Programmatic questions should
be addressed to Dr. Jay Frogel, SIRTF Program Scientist, Office of Space
