for the
Anticipated Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter 2005
Announcement of Opportunity

Owing to the very short time scale for the solicitation and preparation for
launch of the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter 2005 mission (MRO 2005), NASA is
taking the unusual step of releasing a preliminary version of the Proposal
Information Package (PIP) for open access by the interested community of
possible proposers. Because this document is still preliminary, subsequent
changes to it may occur and will be indicated by appropriate markings in
the text. This preliminary MRO 2005 PIP can be found on the World Wide Web
site http://MRO05-PIP.jpl.nasa.gov. It is the responsibility of any user
of this document to review this site on Monday of each week for any changes
and/or updates; NASA will not provide additional notification of such
changes. Release of an Announcement of Opportunity (AO) for MRO 2005 is
currently anticipated for early June 2001, with proposals due in the late
