MARS RECONNAISSANCE ORBITER 2005 MISSION

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Office of Space
Science is releasing an Announcement of Opportunity (AO 01-OSS-02) for its
Mars Exploration Program mission entitled "Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter
(MRO) 2005." Selections through this AO are intended to provide flight
instrument Principal Investigator and Facility Scientist investigations for
a mission to be launched in August 2005 and be operational in orbit around
Mars from March 2006 until May 2009. The science objectives covered by
this mission include those in the currently defined Solar System
Exploration science theme of the Office of Space Science. Participation is
open to all categories of organizations, foreign and domestic, including
industry, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, NASA Centers,
and other Government agencies. This AO will be available on or about June
6, 2001, via the World Wide Web site http://spacescience.nasa.gov/ , link
through "Research Opportunities." A Preproposal Conference will be held on
or about June 22, 2001, at NASA Headquarters, Washington, DC. Notices of
Intent to propose are requested by July 6, 2001, with proposals due August
22, 2001.
