Today I spoke to Jim White, Intertech's director of training (and a former
co-worker of mine). He also expressed to me their regret for the incident.
He also suggested that InterTech is not interested in treating the TCJUG as
a proprietary or closely-held group nor in causing or maintaining a
splintering into two local Java user groups.
I took him to mean that InterTech would continue to support and encourage
the TCJUG even if it chose to meet elsewhere. I'm not sure how such a
decision would be made by your group, perhaps it could be discussed at your
Feb. 15th meeting on Metrics or another Feb. meeting as organized by Adam.
OTUG this year has adopted a specific policy of accepting corporate
sponsorships for a few hundred dollars, so InterTech could still remain
visible as a group sponsor. And their habit of giving away freebies at
meetings would continue to be encouraged! As far as that goes,
OTUG-affiliated JUG meetings could still be held at InterTech offices. The
SIG itself would need to elect its own leader(s) every August (usually
whomever is willing to volunteer next ;-). Currently the position is open,
I have nominated Adam Waldal to the OTUG planning committee to fill it.
(Which could also be discussed/decided at a Feb. meeting.)
Good luck making decisions that work best for your group. I believe the
Twin Cities software development community is greatly enhanced by having
strong a user group and I also hope it need not be splintered.

P.S. OTUG always meets on the 3rd Tuesday of a month, so it would be easier
for active OTUG members (like me!) to attend JUG meetings that were on a
Wednesday other than the third. Second, anyone?
