In what way can't you see them? Are no appointments showing or do you get
the slashes?

Is anyone else having extensive calendaring problems? I am always getting
calls about users not being able to see each others free/busy times. I have
tried running /cleanfreebusy switch (works 10%), creating a new profile
(works 5%), and exporting - deleting mailbox - recreating mailbox -
importing mail (works 100%). Has anyone come up with an easier solution to
these problems?

I think MS just wants to get the advertising bang out of everyone having to
visit the web site to see the map pages and I don't think that MS could care
less about putting other map software companies out of business.

the problem is there are so many map programs to interface with... each
works a bit differently for parsing addresses to the search engine... it
would be impossible for MS to offer it for any thing other than expedia
(maybe map point) and then users would complain because they would either
need to use the web interface all the time or be forced to buy expedia...
with loudest grips by owners of other map programs (and maybe those
developers too) It would be a death toll to any other map program... and
some are actually better than expedia.

this was discussed during the outlook98 beta... several people wanted a cd
option... and the comments above are basically the answer we were given.

what would be great, is if MS saw fit to include expedia with office... but
you'd still run into a problem with keeping data current.... and could add
more full to the DOJ fire...

Perhaps MS could give users a choice. I can see that this would help all of
us who use outlook as a business and contact tool.

You could do a lot in OL98 with the combination of VBScript code on a form and an Event Service script, but it's not particularly easy (at least not to me). The Event Service is a feature of Exchange Server 5.5 that supports events at the server level that you can tie VBScript code to. Many organizations use it to handle automatic booking of conference rooms. There's a sample autobooking script at http://www.slipstick.com/exchange/skedresource.htm. FWIW, I learned just today of a new application that will be entering beta soon that is supposed to support tasks, appointments and journaling from a central contacts list. I'll post details on the web site where there's more definite information. ___ Sue Mosher Author of "The Microsoft Outlook E-mail and Fax Guide" Slipstick Systems, Moscow http://www.slipstick.com/exchange/ Original Article: http://www.egroups.com/list/outlook-users/?start=16 > Is this true in Outlook 98 too? While I agree this would be a nice feature, not everyone will have a local
version of Expedia installed on their hard drive. As I recall, you need to
insert the CD to use it or copy the entire CD to your hard drive.
Additionally, by linking to the Web, the program ensures that the most current
address configuration appears whereby your Expedia Streets may be a year or more
out of date.
Nice idea though would be to give an option with the Map button, local or Web.

1 - I think that O2K's filters work in any folder

2 - This is a transport level issue. Get mail from a POP server and Outlook's relatively fast.

3 - True but if you don't need the PIM stuff you wouldn't use Outlook.

4 - AutoArchiving should do this

5 - True but MS isn't in the anti-virus business (probably get them in more trouble with the Feds). Symantec & McAfee both offer protection

Fundamentally flawed means:
1. Filters only work if e-mail messages are left in the personal information
store (i.e. on the server). The Inbox Assistant is useless if items are to be
transferred to personal folders.
2. The interface is overly graphic. Ask any laptop user in the field trying to
get his office mail from a motel room over a 28.8k connection. You can download
100 messages from a POP server before even connecting to an Exchange server
using the Outlook GUI.
3. None of the Outlook components are deletable.
4. There is no way to automatically age-out (i.e. delete, based on age) old
mails.
5. There is no built-in protection from viruses.

Why does anyone bother with OL2K? The whole GUI is fundamentally flawed and the performance is absolutely terrible.
I'd use Eudora Pro 4.01 using IMAP4 but recipients don't see my name as the sender -- they instead see my name as listed by SMTP.

The folder to which my outlook-users messages are sent is set up to let me view conversations by thread.  Appropriate enough except they don't sort that way!  In other such folders I get the original post and replies to it in the same conversation.  In this folder the originals and replies are each in separate ones.  What's going on?  Is it related to the "[ol-users]" heading that appears in every subject line?  Sue, can that be removed or placed at the end of the subject?

Hi...
I would like to journal ALL email (not just for those contacts with the
journal flag set)

Am I right in thinking this would need a "custom action" for the "rules
wizard"?

If so, where can I look for information(samples/examples) on how to code such a
thing?

Thanks in advance...
...Tom

A reminder that calculates when to trigger based on working days, including
public (and private) holidays.

Eg I know my credit card payment needs to be sent 5 working days before it is
due, which is usually the 3rd. However, I want the reminder to take account of
holidays and weekends, so it actually gives me time to post it. For tasks, a
reminder done in working days would also be much more useful.

I had a similar problem a while back. The solution was to rename
\windows\system\wintrust.dll to something else and retry the download.

The Outlook 98 install will reinstall the wintrust.dll file.

Good luck

This problem has happened to me as well with IE4 and Oulook98. Try this
Reboot in DOS mode and go to the windows\system directory and rename the
following files
Wininet.dll
Urlmon.dll
Shdocvw.dll
Shlwapi.dll
Wintrust.dll
Digsig.dll
Inseng.dll
Jobexec.dll
Rename all these files using XXX as the extension
Example wininet.dll rename to wininet.xxx
Now reboot and try to reinstall

Outlook 2000 won't automatically journal email messages sent to public contacts.
But there are several ways to do this in code, either with a custom message form
or with application level procedures or with an Event Service script.

The closest you can get is color in a printout using the Word template at
http://www.slipstick.com/exchange/gallery.htm#myolcal. This is still the case in
Outlook 2000.

It won't work with builds earlier than 2408. You'll get that error if you try to
have both open at once. You'll also need to be in corporate/workgroup mode.

Glad to be in at the ground floor! This is great.

I've been working on public journalling (i.e. automating journalling to public
folders) lately. Everything I've tried has proved all I've read: Outlook will
not support this. However, it seems if we only had access to the journal
field in the Contact form, we could manipulate its data; I've even thought

Hi everybody! Welcome to the Outlook Users list! I thought it would be fun to
find out whether you plan to install Outlook 2000, based on what you know about
it so far.
----

Please select one of the following:

o I'll install Outlook 2000 as soon as it's released.
o I'll install Outlook 2000 after the Year 2000 crisis passes.
o I don't have a choice; my company controls what's installed on my computer.
o I don't have any plans to install Outlook 2000.
