Shape of ARABIC LETTER HEH (U0647)?   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #1571 of 1821 |
HI,

What is the method for defining shapes on Unicode charts? I think the isolated shapes should be shown on Unicode charts? The question is what should be the representing shape of ARABIC LETTER HEH (U0647)? as on http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U0600.pdf and page#618 of "The Unicode Standard 5" by the Unicode consortium.

The shape shown on Unicode charts is not the isolated form. The contextual/positional forms of ARABIC LETTER HEH (U0647) are shown in attached. It is suggested to change the existing shape of U0647 on Unicode charts with its isolated form.

There should also be a small description about this letter as given for U0649. "The initial and medial shapes of ARABIC LETTER HEH (U0647) assume shapes similar to initial and medial shapes of U06BE".

Similarly the code points U06C1, U06C2 and U06C3 are represented by their final forms. These should also be replaced with their isolated forms as shown in attached.

AoA, Atif, I think they should remain as they are (i.e., in final form). This is because representing them in final form removes any confusion among these...

Actually, the ARABIC LETTER HEH (U+0647) has two isolated shapes. One that looks like "o" when it is at the end of a word after a non-joiner. One, as shown in...

The problem is not merely a conflict about visual choice for U+0647 in order to differentiate it from other kinds of Heh or any other reason. Arabic Heh...

This is something to be addressed in near future. Arabic letter Heh has two isolated forms for the same code or U+0647. One is the round form which is used in...

Dear Behnam, ... I do not agree with this statement. It would have all types of negative affects on sorting, etc. Perhaps what is needed is the same behavior...

Dear Paul, The main issue is a standard encoding for Abjad Heh. And the sooner the better. Exactly to avoid sorting problems you are talking about which do not...
