Hi all,
I have uploaded Tehreer FOG 0.1 file. This file is basiccaly Naqsh
file, and we'll be replacing the glyphs.
The FOG file structure is as follows:
* Isolated shapes (0600-06FF)
* Final Initial and Middle shapes of all characters
* Laam Alef ligatures and Allah ligature
I have replaced some of the initial isolated shapes.
Dear Dr. Muhammad Afzal Saahab,
MashaAllah we are 34 people from Pakistan, Iran,
Austria and USA. These are the countries that are
obvious from our members' profile.

I am afraid that under US and international copyright law, any re-publication of a document in the internet (not only partial citation, which would be considered as"fair use") might be seen as an infringement. In case of the specific document, the copyright message at the bottom of each page seems to indicate that the original author wants to reserve all rights and does not grant freedom of re-publication of the *entire* document.
I have been in the font development business for over ten years and know that certain people, specifically in the United States, interpret copyright rules very strictly, so you'd better be cautious.
What's more, a link to the original website where this document has been published would serve the same purpose...

We are not distributing the Unicode charts (as published on the website or the book), just the unicodes so explicit permission is not required in my opinion.

There was a useful document from Dr Sarmad on another list, in which he
compared the mapping of UZT to UNICODE, if it has not appeared here, then Dr
Sarmad Sahib, can you post it here as well, otherwise I'll have to dig out
the archieves to get it here.

Hi all,
There is a paragraph for distributing the Unicode charts. If you have
got the permission, or think that we are not violating them then it
is ok, otherwise either we have to get permission for distributing
them through paktype or provide it as a link.
Terms of Use
You may freely use these code charts for personal or internal
business uses only. You may not incorporate
them either wholly or in part into any product or publication, or
otherwise distribute them without express
written permission from the Unicode Consortium. However, you are
welcome to provide links to these charts.
Thanks to Ayaz for posting the Unicode list of Arabic script
characters. I have marked the characters that we would need to
include in a Sindhi font.
We would also need to identify the complete glyph set, but that in
any case would be based on this character set. The complete glyph
set would, for example, include various shapes of Sindhi letters,
i.e. initial, medial and final.

Dear friends,
I think I would like to share my experience with you all. If you
already have a font which is not Unicode based then the easiest way to make it
a Unicode based Sindhi font is to take an existing Sindhi Unicode based font
and then using a freely available application like Font Creator Program, cut
and paste the outlines between the two fonts. Good thing about FCP is that it does
not touch or alter the OpenType tables of the font and leaves these intact. So
if you cut each letter from a non-Unicode and paste it in the Unicode font and
then change its name etc. you can easily create a Unicode based Sindhi font.
Back to creating font from scratch, the first thing we need to do
create a list or repertoire of glyphs that will be used in Sindhi font. We can
create such a list in Word or Excel in a table format to keep ourselves
organized. You can also download and use Unipad to find out the Unicode code
points for the characters and glyphs. Here is my list of the letters,
characters, and symbols used in Sindhi (following part may or may not be
readable depending on how your system is set up to handle multilingual
computing):
Then for each letter of alphabet we will have
two or four glyphs depending on whether it joins from both sides or just one
side. Having created such an agreed list, we then proceed and get Unicode
numbers for all the characters. Although we do not absolutely need to, but it
is better to get the available Unicode value of all the shapes. For example,
Unicode value for character Jeem is 062C and the values or codes for its
isolated formis FE9D, its final form
FE9E, its initial form FE9F and its medial form FE00. In the table we should
list all the glyphs, their names and their code points.
So first things first: we must agree and have a
complete list of Sindhi characters, letters and symbols.

Yes it would be very useful to have a list of character
shape-unicode mapping for all languages of Pakistan. It would also be good if this mapping is
ratified by Sindhi Language Authority and circulated
at URLSDF. I have already circulated
such mapping for Urdu on the Urdu computing and URLSDF lists.
However, we only need the character Unicode, and not the
different shape unicodes.Shape
variation is handled by the OTF.Unicode discourages use of presentation forms,
e.g. we should strictly use 062C for Jeem and never the other codes (FE9D, FE9E, FE9F ,
FE00) for OTF font development.

I am very glad to see the progress taking place and I would like to make as much contribution as I can. For those who are interested in learning how a Unicode based OpenType font for Windows platform is made, I believe this is an excellent opportunity to do so.
I will be starting on the FOntographer file creation for this font. Anyone who is interested in joining me plz email me, so that we can share the work load.
These glyphs are not the final shapes and there are more than one BMP for same ligatures as well. If anyone likes to make any improvement then he/she is most welcome.

will upload it on the community. Then it'll become

Hi all,
Thanks Si for initiating the discussion on licensing of our work. I
think we should adopt the GNU's Freeware license but I am still
hesitant because of following reasons:
1. I think it'd be ok for all of us if any company or other community
promotes our fonts by distributing (and not selling) our fonts with
their software and web sites. The only condition could be just to
preserve the name of font maker and font itself. And if someone wants
to make some additions and then distribute it, then the Font
description field should contain all details, like V1.0 by Mr. A and
V 2.0 by Mr. B. and so on.
2. Another issue is that I don't know how to get the license for
fonts; I mean I have been searching for getting GNU's license but I
am unable to find how to get it. Do we just have to copy their
license statements in our "rules.txt" file, or do we have to apply
for it through some application form.
I'll be more than happy if someone can discuss this issue here.
Two glyph sets are under designing. One by Ayaz's friend and one by a
commercial calligrapher and within 2 or 3 weeks, we'll be able to
start working on our first two fonts, therefore it'd be nice if the
licensing issue is resolved before that.
Thank you all
