Sadly, the time has come, after ten years, to close Griffin's Lair. Time runs
out for Griffins on August 26. I want to take this time to thank all those who
supported us, especially those that made us your home for a little while. My
other palace, Bob's Place, will remain open, and as time goes on I will move
some of the more innovative animated and interactive rooms from various holiday
tours and the prop rooms from Griffin's Lair to Bob's Place. Thank you all for
some wonderful friendships!

James, The full description of a 10053 error:

---
WSAECONNABORTED (10053) Software caused connection abort.

Answer/Solution: A connection abort was caused internal to your host
machine. The software caused a connection abort because there is no
space on the socket's queue and the socket cannot receive further
connections.

WinSock description: The error can occur when the local network system
aborts a connection. This would occur if WinSock aborts an established
connection after data retransmission fails (receiver never acknowledges
data sent on a datastream socket).

TCP/IP scenario: A connection will timeout if the local system doesn't
receive an (ACK)nowledgement for data sent. It would also timeout if a
(FIN)ish TCP packet is not ACK'd (and even if the FIN is ACK'd, it will
eventually timeout if a FIN is not returned).
---

The first thing I'd try is rebooting the machine to clear the TCP stack
(windows sometimes gets things stuck in the stack). Are there any
local sites you can try connecting too rather than across the Atlantic?
Do they perform any better at those hours? If they don't a call to
your ISP may be in order to ask if they are doing maintenance or
something of the sort at that time.

On Palace, I get terminated due to inactivity after 4-5 minutes.
This happens only in Palace, not in any other programs.
I don't get frozen or terminated anywhere else.
This happens on both my desktop and my laptop.
I have a Cable Modem, which is always connected, never times out.

I have read messages on forums about others having this problem and
troubleshooted that way, as follows:

I have tried a virgin borg and a virgin cyborg.
I set compatibility to Windows 98 on Palace properties.
I have tried to upgrade existing client with PC client upgrader from
http://www.palaceplanet.net/index.php
I have installed the PC 3.6 client from same website
I have re-installed Palace client over existing client from
http://www.palaceplanet.net/index.php
I have uninstalled Palace and installed new Palace client from same
website
Thinking it MIGHT be Zone Alarm, I shut off the firewall on my
desktop but that didn't stop it.
In Advanced tab, I unchecked filter IP traffic over 1394-didn't work.
In Advanced, I checked Allow outgoing DNS/DHCP in Trusted and
Internet Zones on High Setting.

NONE of this has stopped the terminated due to inactivity problem.
Anyone have ANY other ideas?

Dear Friends,

The Castle was decommissioned yesterday evening in the presence of
notable friends. It was a moving moment for many reasons, but to be
graced by older and newer friends for such an occasion helped make the
transition more positive than negative.

For any who wish to maintain contact with me now that The Castle is a
memory, you may do so via email, of course.

I have two ICQ accounts, one for my Mac (501353) and one for my PC
(5116920). Add me if you don't have me already and wish to.

My YahooIM is "palacecastle".

My MSN (now known as Windows Live Messenger) is
cityslicker69@..., or castleslicker@... although
neither is a functional email address.

I truly wish to maintain contact with those I have met in palace even
though I will not return to that media. Although I have no specific
plans, I don't foresee being involved with any chat programs other
than "instant message" types.

After a decade of providing a pioneering spirit, a leader in
innovative design, and a model for providing a comfortable place to
visit with friends and newcomers, The Castle is leaving Palacespace
forever.

Come join us at 3 p.m. Eastern U.S. time for a once-in-a-lifetime
event where old friends, new friends, family and interested onlookers
reminisce about The Castle and it's long history in Palace. The theme
is "It's Only Goodbye If You Can't Remember" because, although it was
only a chat program, many close ties and relationships were forned
within the weathered walls of The Castle.

Join us for a 2-hour chat and whatever may develop from having people
feel the closeness once enjoyed at The Castle. Whether you were a
passing prop seeker, a newbie looking for a "home", a 24HOP tourist,
a holiday event enthusiast, a prop contestant, a regular, or a staff
member, you'll have memories of The Castle and it's effect on you.

At 5 p.m. Eastern U.S. time, the Castle will be shut down permanently,
whisking all who remain for the experience into Palacespace. Come
join us for the countdown and wish all who are a part of The Castle
well in whatever endeavors they choose.

I've enjoyed a memorable 10 years of Palacing. I know I shall have
more than my share of "memories". Hope to see you there.

you probably know by now that the server requires very little in
resources. The palace client is known for being a CPU hog, if you have
temp sensors set up on your computer you will notice the while the
palace client is running, your CPU will heat up dramatically as well.

Merry Yuletide!!
Please Stop by Bridge of Dreams & Nightmares Palace,
bodan.fastpalaces.com:9998, for a Celebration of the Winter Solstice!!
The shortest day of the year, it is the celebration & rebirth of the Sun,
which is the promise of spring and life, even on this - the darkest day.
Therefore, some consider this the New Year.
The burning of the log is to give the Sun strength.
Mumming (plays) such as "St. George", are a Pagan survival, representing the
rebirth of the God.
Wassailing is also a Pagan custom.
The Roman festival of the Solstice was Saturnalia, which lasted from December
17th to the 24th.
So come on by and Celebrate!
KellyJean, Your Hostess, will be there this Tue, Wed & Thurs after 6pm PST
till around 3am! So, come on by to chat, play games, tour, or to just have some

Pagan, Pagan, what are you finding?
Yours is the road that winds lonely and far,
Strange are the shadows that round you come creeping,
Still through the clouds is the glint of a star!

It could be that a reg code was automaticly generated for you
durring the download or installation of your client.

If you were asked for your name and organization, that is what
happened.

Pagan, Pagan, what are you finding?
Yours is the road that winds lonely and far,

Hello, I'm new to Palace and after I d/led the software, I logged in
and under "file"/"enter reg. code" I could not make this selection
because it is greyed out. Any suggestions on what I may have done
wrong. Also, I'm trying to upload an avatar and can't seem to paste
my image in the avatar editor. Thanks for your help! a.k.a. RenChick

hi to all

we have at our german forum a strange problem, there is a user,
always he is on the palace-client - his computer reboots after a
while, different times once after 3 minutes another time after 30
minutes..but always again, he can't chat anymore really cause of this
problem, and the computer makes this reboots only with palace - not
with other programms....does anyone knows this problem or has a
answer why this could be? a solution?

thank you in advance
greetz

one answer was:
Hi

If possible this user should check his computer temperature, if he
uses Windows, the Palace client will make the processor run at 100%
as long as he is logged in on a Palace server. It depends on his
system but some computers get overheated this way.

but unfortunately - he said, its not overheated ...

does anyone knows another answer of this problem?

Where did she get the Palace software? Was it an "original" or was
it an altered client? What version is it? There is a lot of
information we would need to be able to assist.
