Description

Paleogeoarthropoda is an egroup for researchers interested in the evolution and geologic history of non-marine arthropods. Researchers are invited from diverse disciplines (e.g., biology, geology, chemistry, paleontology, botany, genetics, ichnology, biomechanics) for the purposes of publications, presentations, and other types of collaboration.

If you are interested in fossil insects, spiders, and millipedes but not a researcher, please visit our sister egroup, Fossil Bugz, for the general public and educators, at

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FossilBugz

The study of non-marine arthropods is sometimes called entomology (recent) or paleoentomology (fossils). However, these terms are unsatisfactory since they technically refer to insects only (sensu strictu). Two new terms are proposed:

*GEOARTHROPOD referring to all non-marine arthropods (i.e., from brackish, freshwater, and terrestrial environments), including chelicerata (xiphosura + eurypterida + "arachnids"), euthycarcinoidea, myriapoda, hexapoda (insecta + others), and some crustaceans.

*PALEOGEOARTHROPOD referring to fossil geoarthropods.

MEMBER FEEDBACK IS CRITICAL. Members are encouraged to post Messages, Photos, and Files related to their research. Members may participate in community Polls or view the community Calender of Events. Our website includes more than 250 Links to geoarthropod references, museums, zoos, researchers, and other web resources. Members are welcome to update our member Databases or utilize the Chatroom.
