Greetings,
I figured out a new scheme for Pandunia's vocabulary. I talked about it
months ago with "the LangX team" and finally I'm about to take it into
use in Pandunia. The idea is to arrange vocabulary into concentric circles.
- The inner circle consists of most frequent words, the kind of words
that you need almost all the time. Those words should be easy to
pronounce, syllable shape (C)V(N), and they also should be short (and
therefore easier to remember). For example the number words should be
monosyllabic and consist of the most basic sounds (a, e, i, o, u, t, k,
l, m, n, s, j, v).
- The next circle consists of words that you need often, maybe every
day, or that you would probably need in casual contacts with foreigners.
Those words should be relatively easy to pronounce, syllable shape
(C)V(C), and they could be also polysyllabic.
- The outer circle consists of uncommon words and proper nouns. Their
complexity is not limited (though most of them should conform to
Pandunia's sound inventory).
Now the goal is that the vocabulary is easy in the right places.
