This is Paph Wossner Kolosuk.  As far as I'm concerned, this plant is
ugly.  I have seen pictures of other Wossner Kolosuks, and they are much
nicer, favoring more the sukhakulii rather than the kolopakingii.

Plus, what is the dang deal with that half leaf coming out of the
spike?  Comments welcome.  The spike on this plant blasted last year -
maybe that was a *good thing*???  ha ha ha ...

I'm a paph beginner and wondered where everybody was!

The few times I've tried paphs, I never seem to get another bloom. :-( Other
than appropriate watering and lighting, what other factors favor flowering
in the Maudiae types of paphs?  A note on lighting, I only *have* south
facing windows to work with, but have my paphs about 18" back from the
window and to the side. Footcandle-wise, this seems to be appropriate (a
meter told me so. :). But does that work for people here?

Thanks for all the advice on growing Paph delanatii.  It sounds so easy.  I've managed to kill all three of the delenatiis I've tried, along with quite a few others.  Now I'm inspired to try to kill another one. <grin>

I definitely do better with hybrids and seem to have particularly good luck with the parvisepalum hybrids I've tried -- the Norito Hasagawa I posted the picture of, Armeni White, a Magic Lantern which has reliably bloomed every other year several times and which could be the start of a colony they are so beautiful, and several others.  My new Gold Dollar (armeniacum x primulinum)  is spiking so I'm excited to see what it is like.

The only species I've reliably grown are niveum -- a nice round white blob in my photos -- and concolor.  Last year it bloomed with three flowers and two buds to open before it was damaged at a show.  I "rescued" this plant from a flower shop and it has done extremely well under my conditions.  I grow under lights in my extra bedroom.   (It used to be a bedroom anyway.)   

After I discovered that henryanum and barbigerum like a very dry winter before being resuscitated in the spring they have done much better.   I haven't had a bloom off my armeniacum or phillipinese but the plants haven't died and are bigger than they used to be.

Thanks again for the input from everyone on delenatii.  I need another orchid.

Garrie, first let me congratulate you on your cultural practices.Getting them to
flower each year. I also grow Parvi's. Flourescents and cool.My problem is low
winter humidity. 10-20%. I yet to flower an Armeniacum. Jim

osmocote 17-17-17 is the best for me, my paphs really love it.............

So I do try to be patient with my slippers - but this year, I finally

I have less luck with delenatii than you do for some reason.  Some of
the crosses flower fine for me, but delenatii itself is reluctant.  Do
you use a potting mix with some sphagnum in it?  Just curious.
