Detecting cosmic radiation at 20 mi altitude   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #456 of 696 |
Hi, I'm new to the list and just joined. A friend and I are
brainstorming ideas for an experiment at high altitude on board a
near-space balloon payload at 20 mi / 100,000 ft altitude. We're
thinking of building a cosmic ray detector for use at such an altitude,
but we are concerned that the plans for building cosmic ray detectors
only detect muons. Is this true? Would perhaps a scintillator detect
pions? I am currently fairly uneducated about cosmic radiation, but I'm
planning on reading more this week.

Thanks!
~ Andrew
