Excellent idea Norb. I do use that feature in Datebk4, but I'm still
of the opinion that we should leave app launching to app launchers
all together (even though LTH does launch the Calc application, which
I think comes in extremely handy, so let's please keep it :) ). In
that case, I guess the next question would be, "What the heck else do
we want LTH to do?" I'm trying to think back to the good old days of
DOS and the cool TSR called SideKick Plus. If I can only remember all
the stuff it had...

Best Regards,

Tamim

If TealNag bothers you, I suggest that you buy pay for it and then, after a

probably a good idea if you check with TealPointm in advance if they will

On December 10, 1999 Paul started working on pedit. On February 1, 2000 he
publicly released version 1.00. I include below a collector item: the
announcement he posted to several newsgroups.

Date: 1 Feb 2000 16:17:38 GMT

Thus is my very first publicly released palm software so please be very
gentle in blaming me for plugging it. Instead, please rush to
http://www.math.ohio-state.edu/~nevai/palm/ and ENJOY!!! Please tell me what
you think of pedit!

#############################################################################
pedit is based on Palm Computing's built-in "Memo Pad" and is meant to
replace it [just like DateBk3 made "Date Book" obsolete]. It packs a myriad
of features which makes it a perfect tool for anyone using the palm for
serious text editing.

Even casual writers will appreciate its simple but rich and efficient
interface.

This particular problem seems to be related to the fix for a prior
glitch that only seemed to affect a few people [was included in
v2.74]... I think that problem got narrowed down to those running
IIIx's and OS3.3? I'm sure of the OS, not as sure that it was
limited to IIIx's. At any rate, it stands to reason that this last
set of symptoms would be limited to the same bunch.

You know, if I have to I'll upgrade to OS3.5. I've resisted since
none of the features mentioned by Palm sound like they are worth the
hassle (i.e., I already get the split screen option and better alarm
dialog from Datebk4, etc.). However, this might provide the
incentive.

I have been keeping that announcement since last February. I decided to
keep it because I felt that that application had great potential, and it
was worth closely watching it.

At the time I was looking for a Memo Pad replacement for use with LispMe
and the reference to "a myriad of features" in your announcement attracted
my attention. A few weeks later I tried pedit, I think it was 1.08, and
immediately got hooked.

Developers are usually suggested to leave 30% more room in user interface

If anybody is willing to share files with localized messages for peditDesk,

Hi Paul,

What are you using as a "logical interruption"? I tried importing
a bunch of DOC files (in 32K mode) and they were all split where
there was a space. I was under the impression that they would be
segmented at a line break or new paragraph.

I consulted the manual under "segmented memos" and it still
reads, "...you will realize that the files have been split up without
taking into consideration logical pauses in the text such as
paragraphs, new lines. or spaces."

Right. It was a bug that I used to allow it. I fixed it. Had I kept that
"feature", it would have allowed recursive invocations of various forms which
is fun to do but will lead to a crash. E.g., 25 calendars on top of each
other, each set to a different month. Isn't that fun? AMB=Paul

Nope. I bet you didn't check carefully.

1. Is there a paragraph break within 100 chars? If yes, go there.

2. If not, then is there a new line within 100 chars? If yes, go there.

3. Same with space.

4. If neither then split right now.

Do you think this is not how it works? Please e-mail me a DOC file and tell
me how ytou split it and I will do the same.

Yep, I haven't checked carefully :) I just downloaded it about 25
mins. ago, so it was a cursory look. I knew that you were using some
kind of hierarchy to decide where to split, and now I know what that
is, which will definitely help in figuring out if it is working
properly (WOW, now THAT is a long sentence!). I will keep you posted!

I am sorry to see you remove the ability to bring the date and voltage
display up in editpad or magipad. I use this quite a lot because I use
magipad to make job notes as I go along during the day. I can then bring up
magipad anywhere and paste the note where I need it. Being able to easily
put the date in was very nice and quick. I tried and I could not bring more
than one date and voltage display up at a time. I have never had a crash
doing this. Please reconsider allowing this. I will continue to use LTH2.75b
because it has this functionality until a new must have feature is put into
LTH.

Once more (after initially having been scared off by its steep

Since I downloaded both pedit Pro and LaptopHack for evaluation and

# I am sorry to see you remove the ability to bring the date and voltage
# display up in editpad or magipad. I use this quite a lot because I use
# magipad to make job notes as I go along during the day. I can then bring up
# magipad anywhere and paste the note where I need it. Being able to easily
# put the date in was very nice and quick. I tried and I could not bring more
# than one date and voltage display up at a time. I have never had a crash
# doing this. Please reconsider allowing this. I will continue to use LTH2.75b
# because it has this functionality until a new must have feature is put into
# LTH.

Dirk:

I really can't do that. The problem with recursion is real. Ask Monika. It
is a bad [sloppy] practice to allow it. Best regards, Paul
