Hi Beth-
Can he get online with the browser konqueror? This is a web browser that is in
a lot of linux distros. Was wondering if he could get online with this one or
the problem was totally with firefox. Linux is a little funny if he downloaded
it from the web he has to also have all the files that fire fox is dependent on
usually and I do mean usually if you try to install an application it won’t
install if you don’t have the application plus all the files it requires…again
I don’t know what he is running and there is a lot of unknowns here. I
would 1st see if he can get online with a different browser usually
there are 2 built in with the distros but that could have changed.

Hi all. I am asking about this for a friend
because from what I
understand Linux is not for the novice. While I may not be a novice I'm
certainly not an advanced user. I know just enough to be dangerous. LOL
Anyway, this friend has Linux installed and said, "As for Linux, I can
ping, get mail but Firefox will NOT go online. I have changed settings
galore but nothing." Can anyone shed some light on why he cannot get
firefox to go online in Linux. I bet you are going to want to know
specifics about his computer. What I know is it is an Acer laptop with
XP installed. He lives in Australia if that has anything to do with it.
Beyond that, I don't know the specifications of his computer. If there
is something else you need to know to answer the question, let me know
and I will ask him.
Thanks, Beth
